Sam left for the library very early to make up for missing his shift last week, but he made the mistake of going to get coffee in town, and after dealing with the surprise crowd and nearly getting run over three separate times, he was only a little early in the end. Still, he figured it was better than not being there at all.

"I know that some things aren't going to change. Family's family."

"Unless family goes evil and tries to kill everyone," Sam said, lightly teasing.

"That just means you cut down how much money you spend on Christmas presents," Dean joked.

Sam laughed. "But birthdays would still be the same, right?"

"Well.... wouldn't want go overboard after all."

"No, of course not," Sam said. "You know, I knew you'd figure out what was wrong with me. I knew you'd help, more than anyone else."

"See, now you're talking sense," Dean said. "I'll always look out for you."

"I know you will. It's one of the few constants in our lives," Sam replied.

Peter came into the library and looked for Sam.

Sam glanced up from his book again and smiled when he saw Peter. "Hey," he said quietly.

"Okay, good," Peter said. "You're here. There's some rightness in the world."

"Did you come by last week?" Sam asked.

"Yeah," Peter said. "Missed you."

"I'm sorry," Sam said, wondering if there was going to be a time soon when he wouldn't have to say that.

"You keep saying that to me and I'm going to throw one of these books at your head," Peter told him.

"But it's true," Sam said. "I'm sorry I made you worry."

"Not your fault, apology accepted, still going to toss a book at your head if you keep saying it," Peter told him.

"I've been told I have a thick skull. It might not do any good," Sam teased.

"I've been told I can be pretty strong," Peter teassed right back.

"You're very strong," Sam said. "You might actually be able to get through."

"Lucky for you I prefer more fun ways of getting my message through," Peter told him.

"Oh yeah? Like what?" Sam asked.

Peter leaned across the counter to brush a kiss over Sam's lips.

Sam made a pleased noise and kissed Peter back a little harder.

"Much better," Peter said. "Now things are right."
