Sex Ed, Wednesday, Period 2

A TV was set up at the front of the room. "Purity balls are a sacred event," Edward said. He held a remote in one hand. "Daughters pledge to remain pure until marriage and fathers pledge to keep watch over them. Today we'll find out a little more about these events." He pressed "play" and dimmed the lights so the students could watch a documentary about Purity Balls.

Joan was torn between fascination and abject horror.

Temari was... more than mildly frightened by these things. And more than glad her father barely spoke to her before, you know, being killed and replaced by Orochimaru.

Amber snorted. Even if she did have a dad around, she was more than sure he wouldn't protect her virtue. Just the opposite likely.

She decided to make paper airplanes.

Purity balls? Really?

Angela slouched forward on her elbows to watch. The idea of her dad at one of these... That thought alone was amusing to her.

When you went through fourteen years of your life not realizing that the double-sex below your belt wasn't normal at all until a tractor hit you and some doctor in the emergency room told you, you tended to kind of wish your parents had a bit more involvement in this part of your life.

However, a video like this sent Cal right back to thinking he was glad he found out via tractor accident after all. If Milton had taken this sort of interest in this sphere, he would have ended up hoping the tractor accident had killed him.

So Cal was just going to space out and think about Saturday instead, which was drifting in the distinct opposite direction than purity.

Claire found the phrase "purity balls" kind of amusing, and her feminist streak was horrified that the girls were being treated like property.

Mostly, she was glad her father had never heard of such a thing. Not that she thought he would have wanted to take her to one, but he'd have teased her.

Meg was watching with something like horror. "At what point do they lock the chastity belt on?" she muttered.

Claire snorted. "Seriously, that would be way more efficient. Think they castrate the guys, too?"

"Of course not, they're boys," Meg replied. "They don't have any responsibility here. Which I think is stupid."

Claire rolled her eyes in agreement. "I guess it's more important girls be all pure."

"For what? That's what I don't get," she admitted, her voice irritated. "Like a girl's virginity is some sort of trophy? That's her only value?"

"I think it kinda is to these people," Claire decided thoughtfully. "That and how pretty she looks in a big white dress."

"These people are batshit." Ordinarily Meg wouldn't be quite so open with her opinions about Conservatives, but by this point in Fandom she figured the odds of being quoted and embarrassing her mother were pretty slim to non-existent. "I get a special thrill knowing my mother drives them nuts."

Claire turned her fuller attention to Meg. "Who's your mom?"

"In my corner of the universe? She's the President," Meg explained. "A strong, independent woman. I read the conservative blogs sometimes for giggles. She makes them crazed."

Claire was tempted to call bullshit, but she didn't. There was nothing about Meg that suggested she'd make something like that up for the attention. "Oh, no way," she said, clearly impressed. "That rocks."

If Claire ever noticed the two hyper-alert men (or the occasional woman) that followed Meg to class and waited for her in the hall, it might make the bullshit call a little less likely.

"It's been interesting with good points, but a few annoying bad points as well," she shrugged. "Mostly because when I've been introduced to people like this, I can't laugh them. I have to play proper political kid."

Kevin spent the class trying to locate the hidden cameras. He was now totally convinced this entire class was a joke.

Toby should not have spent his time watching Kevin instead of the video.

Aw. That wasn't what Chuck had been imagining when Edward said "purity balls". Damn.

Once they ping in.

Joan was around.

Marco was around, trying not to burst out laughing.

Who is ~~wishing he could wear a pretty white dress~~ watching the film quietly.
