Basics of Alchemy - Period 5, Monday - 12/08

"Good morning, class," she greeted them as they walked into the room.

"Today, we'll be doing a review of the metals with some practical discussion. After all, what use is the information if you don't know what to do with it? That said, if you'd all be so kind as to sit..."

Best keep it short, considering.

Andrew wasn't feeling very participatory today. He sat in the back of the class and drew in his notebook.

"I'm going to ask a few questions. Feel free to answer, discuss an answer with another student, ask more questions...

"Mostly, I'd like this to be something of an open forum for us all to get a good understanding of what we've learned."

"Which do you think is more appropriate, considering your own opinions on the efficiency of taken drafts: physical alchemy or psychological alchemy?"

"Which, if any, of the metals do you think could have a meaningful influence on your life and why?"

"Steel," she said, with the slightest hint of a shrug if you were looking. "It's a c-common weapon. It's n-not precisely what was covered, t-though you could make a case for i-iron being alike it, in use."

"I should think it would fall under iron. But why do you think it might have a meaningful influence?"

"Iron," Sam said, barely having to think about it. "Even if I don't spend my life hunting demons...it's still useful to have on hand, and I can see myself needing it more than anything else."

She seemed rather surprised.

"And why is that? Why iron?"

"Iron makes ghosts essentially disappear, and demons can't cross over it," Sam explained. "I don't know exactly why; there's a lot of theories out there. For me, it's...it makes me feel safer, I guess, in all its forms."

"What about silver?" she asked curiously, "which is also protective to a degree?"

Sam smiled. "I'd almost forgotten about silver. That's an important one too."

"Take a moment to consider the others.

"Gold, Mercury, Copper, Lead, and Tin."

"Works against faeries, too," Harry pointed out. "Which can come in very handy."

"Do you often have trouble with the Fae?" she asked of Harry, curious.

Harry grimaced. "Just one of them, really. But she tells me she's only got my best interests at heart."

She snorted, which wasn't wise but was very Abigail Irene.

"I'm not particularly surprised. How she'd know that, though, is something you should always keep in mind."

"I know," Harry said. "And believe me, I don't trust her. But I can't exactly get rid of her."

"Unfortunately," she had to admit with a sigh.

"You're familiar with the situation, huh?"

"What do you think of the processes used in our lab work? Why do or don't you think that the results would be effective?"

"In general, do you think that the principles and associations of alchemy are resultant, the cause of, or simply parallel to many of the associations and principles in chemistry and cultural mindset?"

Who are awesome.

Sam wasn't feeling awesome, but he was here, very glad for the distraction of class.

Savannah was definitely here... even if she looked a little distracted.

Who thankfully did not have her dog transform this weekend. As such, Mike was sleeping at her feet at the front of the class.
