Care for Magical Creatures; Period One. [ 12/08 ]

Today, Minsc's Danger Shop classroom was set up with all sorts of things that might help make a critter's stay in the room much more comfortable: comfy pillows, warm blankets, bowls of food and water, puff balls and thick shoelaces to play with, and he hoped that, like Boo, everyone else's animals had transformed back to their normal states today, as well, or else this would be a much more interesting class than he had bargained for.

"Good morning, students!" he greeted them. "A few thing to note: I have your papers for you and they were all very good! I am impressed! I hope you can be as impressive on your final exam next week! This week, however, I hope you remembered to bring your pets, those of you who have them! It is show and tell day! I know we did something similar to this at the beginning of the semester, but now you've a whole semester's worth of knowledge about magical creatures under your belts, and maybe that has put certain things into perspective about your own critters."

There was a slight pause.

"That, and I'm pretty sure that they were actually people this weekend; that should be a good perspective! How did you feel about that? Did you learn anything new from them being a person? What were they like as a person? Please include all this fascinating information about your experiences, and don't hesitate to ask each other questions! If you have no pets, did you meet anyone else's pets this weekend? What was that like for you?"

"For example," Minsc offered, "Boo was a person this weekend, and, as a result, I have almost no food in my house at the moment. It takes a lot more to feed a person than it does to feed a hamster!"

"Your turn." He motioned to one student, beckoning for them to start.

[[ OCD on the way is up! ]]

Pento hopped/flew off Ella's shoulder as soon as she was seated, and made quick work of a bowl of grain. Half got eaten, and he flung the other half about the room.

Ella watched and winced.

Mac was pretty sure Poe wasn't into all the home comforts at this point, but removed him from her hoodie pocket and put him on a cushion anyway.

She was trying to feed him bits of carrot during the lecture.

Sam made sure to sit near one of the bowls of food so Scout wouldn't run away from him to get at it and eat.

Destiny was happy to sit on a cushion next to Savannah and eat her treats.

Molly didn't have any pets, so she watched everyone else's.

Harry was petless, pondering the merits of being not-so-petless, and also thinking that animals turning into people was just very very weird.

Jo placed herself as far across the room from Sam as possible, and then sat Jet between them for good measure.

Jet for his part looked blithely unconcerned.

"Uh, this is Poe," she told them, holding an unimpressed lemming on a cushion up for anyone who wanted to see. "He's a lemming from Caprica."

"He's... kind of whiny and emo as a human," she admitted. "But cute."

"This is Pento," Ella began, once she'd captured the bird. "Pento, say hello."

Pento looked at her like she was asking the earth. hadn't he talked enough over the weekend? But he did squawk a friendly sort of squawk.

Ella flushed a little. "Pento, anyhow, is a parrot. His name means 'Birdy' in my roommate's native language. I like him because he's such bright colors and he talks, and I like to watch him fly around my room. My friend Mandy at home has a pet parrot, and I've always liked him."

"When he was a person he spoke nonstop, just for the sake of speaking. But there wasn't a terrible amount of content to most of what he said."

"I have not pet," Helen said, "because I choose not to have one. And they were not allowed where I was."

"Um, this is Scout," Sam said, pointing to the dog who was sprawled out beside him. "He was a Christmas present two years ago after years of wanting a dog, so he was pretty special right from the start. He's always been really good and really loyal, and I thought that was just because, you know, that's what dogs are like. But while he was human--he was kind of intimidating looking at first, but he was really nice and...I had a really...rough week, and he said he'd been worried about me. I don't know, it just made me realize how much I appreciate having him, I guess."

Jan shook his mane and his ears flicked. "I don't have a pet." The idea kind of disturbed him. "However, I was a human this weekend." He snorted. "I'm not sure I enjoyed it, but I feel I learned a great deal. Your fingers are very clever, and you see the world quite differently from a unicorn."

"I don't have a pet," Robin began. "But I was human this weekend too. I never really thought it'd be that different since I can do a lot of things people can do. But the height difference and being able to make facial expressions took a lot of getting used to."

"I have a lot of brothers and sisters, so the house is pretty much too full and too busy for a pet--it wouldn't be fair, especially since a few of them are still little."

"Haven't got any pets," Harry said. "Not sure why, exactly. Maybe I should get one."

Jeff was not intrepid. Jeff was just eying his dog warily, and edging away from her bit by bit.

Jan was the very picture of intrepitude, obviously quite pleased to be back in his proper body. His ears were up, held held high, and tail flagged. Sometimes, he'd bend his head to sharpen his horn on his hoof, just to reassure himself it was still there.
