Sam was beaming as the class ~~who had been handwavily notified of the change in classroom location~~ showed up outside the flight simulator. "Hello! Today, we'll be discussion aeronautics, in particular the branch of science known as aerodynamics, or the study of the interaction between air and a solid object, hopefully creating flight.

She passed out a number of handouts, which were as usual filled with complicated mathematical formulae, and concentrating in particular on the discussion of the laws of conservation, the new vocabulary, and the different types of flows. "Today, you'll be learning that there can be a useful purpose to all this math and science. You'll be flying various American military aircraft, and you can either fly against one other person in a run, or combat situation, or you can just practice your flying, landings, or takeoffs, or just fly around and look at the ~~moddable~~ American scenery, circa 2008. If there's anyone here who has never been up in a plane before, I'd be happy to take you up, if that would make you more comfortable."

Sam rattled off the rules of using the sim next. "No eating or drinking in the room or the cockpit--if you've just eaten, no breaking the sound barrier or performing barrel rolls. If you break the rules and throw up, you get to clean it up, or deal with Professor Skywalker. Any questions?"

No falling over from boredom, please?

The lecture was dull, but Romeo stayed awake during it for one specific reason: He knew it meant he'd get to fly at the end.

Hoshi was taking lots of notes.

Naomi took down detailed notes.

Sokka scribbled notes like crazy. Aerodynamics were his specialty, and being able to see the math behind it all was pretty awesome.

Rikku was wriggling in her seat. AIRCRAFT. AERONAUTICS. GOOD TIMES.

See Sam. See Sam be absolutely terrified of military aircraft. No reason.

Three choices!

Fly against one other person. All military aircraft.

He'd never done this before, so Romeo wanted to have a cohort when he took to the skies. he waited for a partner.

Rikku bounced, and waved excitedly at Romeo. "Can you believe it? We get to fly. Isn't that awesome?"

"I've definitely had worse class sessions," Romeo agreed with a lazy smile. He looked at the knobs on the control panel, fingers lightly tracing their contours. "have you flown anything like this?"

"You bet," she grinned. "I took Flying classes both summers I've been here. One with Professor Skywalker, and one with Murdock. Our airship back home doesn't look anything like this, though."

She couldn't resist a happy wriggle. "Man, I haven't been flying in ages. Have you ever?"

"Never," Romeo said, and it was a bit of a sore point. "I wanted to, over the summer, but it wasn't offered the second half."

"You should get Reno to take you," Rikku suggested. "I guess his chopper's kinda kaput now, but he flies so well. I bet he could teach you."

She nodded to the seats. "You can go first, if you want. Since you haven't gotten to. I'll chill out in the navigator spot."

Fly on your own.

Fly with Sam (when I get home from the airport, around 9-10 EST) in an F-302.

When he pings in!

Rodney can tell you anything you want to know about aerodynamics. Just don't ask for a demonstration.

Outside the plane, and not until I get home from Dulles.

"Um, Professor Carter, ma'am, do we. Do we have to um. Fly the thingy?" Sam's tone and nervous, more fidgety demeanor suggested he really really hoped the answer was 'no, just kidding.'

She glanced over. "Have to? No, of course not. Why?"

"Uh, it's just--military attack jets keep trying to kill me," Sam said in a rush.

Oops. "Then you can definitely sit this one out. I'm sorry--if I'd known, I'd have come up with something different. You can leave early, if you'd like."

"No, it's--I--I can just sit over here." Way over here. "Um, also, I have a problem where my car left? And he was my partner for the final project?"

"Right, I did get that message, somewhere," she said, apologetically, "How much did you have done? As I see it, your options are either to finish the project on your own, or find another group that would be willing to take you and your ideas on."

"I think I can finish it on my own," Sam said.

His current plan: shanghai his employer into, er, helping. Failing that, he was going with prayer.
