History in Living Colour - Friday, Period 3 (Week 11)

Last week's inventor's workshop was replaced with the inside of a large animal fur tent. It was noticeably cold, but there were furs around if you needed them. Flamed torches brought the only light, illuminating the large throne at one end of the tent.

The Doctor gave a warning before he allowed the students to approach. "Genghis Khan this week. Emperor of the Mongol Empire, military leader, took over most of Asia during his time. You'll learn more talking to him than listening to me, but try not to antagonise him. It won't be pretty. He's a little," the Doctor tried to think of the right word, then gave up and went with "mad."

"I'm the man of the house!" Khan said while trying not to smile. "I'll track entrails where I want!"

"Then you'll be on your hands and knees scrubbing where you want, afterwards," Alice insisted, chin set defiantly. "Or you'll be man of the shed out back, which is where you'll be sleeping."

"Don't make me throw your dog in the fire again, woman!" the great Khan warned with joy in his heart.

It was very hard not to laugh. Alice couldn't remember ever enjoying an assignment this much.

"The next time you lay a finger on my dog," she said, straightening her back, "I shall cut all of your fingers off and fill the house with cats. Twenty of them, at least. They'll shed on everything you like and cough enormous hairballs onto your pillows. Which will be out in the shed."

"I'll set the shed on fire and burn the cats, too!" Khan threatened. "When I rule the world, I'll be able to build all the sheds I want!"

"You can sleep in all of them for all I care!" she snapped. "I'll be in our house, with fifty cats and perfectly clean floors!"

Because having fifty cats in a house would in no way disturb the floors.

"I'll teach them to do their business on the floor!" Khan threatened.

"I had no idea you enjoyed scrubbing so much," she said coldly. "How will you find the time to take over the world and build sheds when you are cleaning up after 50 cats and your own entrail-tracking?"

"I won't do any of it. I have a horde," Khan said.

Alice looked hurt.

"If you honestly think that I can't abuse your horde into mass suicide in under a week, then you simply aren't the man I married."
