History in Living Colour - Friday, Period 3 (Week 11)

Last week's inventor's workshop was replaced with the inside of a large animal fur tent. It was noticeably cold, but there were furs around if you needed them. Flamed torches brought the only light, illuminating the large throne at one end of the tent.

The Doctor gave a warning before he allowed the students to approach. "Genghis Khan this week. Emperor of the Mongol Empire, military leader, took over most of Asia during his time. You'll learn more talking to him than listening to me, but try not to antagonise him. It won't be pretty. He's a little," the Doctor tried to think of the right word, then gave up and went with "mad."

Khan nodded as if he were barely paying attention. The kid was speaking French. His people would be conquered soon enough. By May, if Ogdai was persistent and had good timing. "Yes, clearly you are. What is your question for the mighty Khan?"

Warren was now clearly amused. Slightly.

"Have you any words of advice for the sons of men who have been imprisoned for aspiring to greatness comparable to your own?"

...Well, he was curious.

"Kill your father while he is vulnerable in prison, take over his horde by force if necessary (and it will be), and do your job better than he did his while remembering that your glory will never match that of mine," the mighty Khan said. "And find yourself a good woman who loves you for you and not just the terror you can instill in her heart. They have trouble being proper wives if they're too frightened."

"Your words are very..." Uh. "Wise."

Warren was giving Genghis his 'I think you are insane' face and hoped that he'd be lucky enough for it to be interpreted as a proper sort of terror.

"You're welcome," the great Khan said. There was no reason not to be polite just because he would eventually slaughter the boy's leaders, family, and pets when he took over the world.
