Amazingly, this thread is for getting an assignment or volunteering for something.

"Uh, writeup on the holidays?" Lee asked. "I have no idea. I'm open for suggestions."

"The holidays could work," Rikku nodded. "Winter weather, maybe, to give a warning to people from places that kind don't have it. Early study tips for finals, or ideas of things to do over break, for people who don't want to go home."

She tried to think of other possibilities.

"Things to do over break!" Lee liked that one. "Yeah, I'll grab that."

"Awesome!" Rikku bounced. "Last year, for winter break? I went home and cleared out a dungeon and got all sorts of useful gems and stuff."

Monster-killing ruled.

"I definitely have a PSA about Thanksgiving festering in my head," Cal offered.

"'Warning: This Holiday Has Lots of Food'?" Rikku grinned. "I still can't get the hang of holidays here, but most of them have good stuff to eat."

"Lots of Food, That Makes you Sleepy," Cal agreed with a nod. "And beware of Aunts with Mustaches."

You get a lot of those in Greek families.

"Aunts with Mustaches?" Rikku frowned. "Oh. You mean like ... when Uncle Eigaar and Aunt Rin show up for dinner? Why's that bad?"

It'd help if other people knew those were both guys' names.

Cal stared at Rikku like he couldn't fathom why she would ever question such a thing, and then he shook his head. "Trust me," he said. "It is. I know it can't just be a Greek thing."

At least he knew that, since the fateful summer of '74, the cheek pinching and mustache kisses had halted completely.

"I'm hoping to snag an interview with Mister Reilly over at Things Reborn for next week," Turtle informed everyone with a nod.

"Awesome," Rikku bounced. "And if he says no, you can just make up mean things about him and write those, instead."

She was kidding. Honest.

"Oh. Totally."

Turtle was not. At all.

Warren crossed his arms over his chest and gave his shoulders a shrug.

"I think I might have to do a rant column on fashion shows," he grunted.

Because...

Seriously.

"You don't seem the fashion show type," Rikku said, scratching her head. "You know, I was gonna ask you something, and now I forg--- OH! Heyyyyyyyy. So who's the girl?"

"I'm not the fash-" Wait. Wait, wha? .... "Girl?"

Awkward Warren suddenly felt very awkward.

"You know," Rikku sighed. "Some girl. She gets cookies, and tells you they're from someone secret, but they can't be a guy, 'cause guys are never into her. They're all mean and stuff. And you got all ticked like, well, screw them, some people totally can't appreciate what's right in front of them and she totally agreed with you because she has zero sense of irony. Who is she?!"

Because she was shipping them already, if you could 'ship' real-life people like you did fake ones on the internet, and she had no idea who this girl was. But she'd better be nice to Warren, or Rikku would kill her.

Warren was now awkward and fidgeting. And maybe he was blushing, but if anyone ever pointed that part out, he'd kill them.

"Her name's Momoko," he mumbled, somewhere in the general direction of his feet.

"Momo?" Rikku squeaked. "Really!? Dude! She's awesome! She's my little sib! Did you know that? That's adorable! I didn't know you guys were friends!"

Warren was now making a long succession of grumbly noises that might be construed as speaking, if one were to listen closely enough.

"We're in Superhuman Physics together," he informed Rikku. Kind of. "Talked for the first time in Caritas, that day everyone was the wrong sex."

He shrugged.

"She's happy." Which, really, he figured went without saying.

"I knoooow," Rikku said. "She's so cute. I just want to squeeze her. Does she really have a secret admirer?"

"She really got cookies," Warren grunted with a shrug. And maybe a bit of a frown. "Four chocolate chip ones. No note."

Maybe, if one was paying attention, they might be able to tell that Warren was slightly grumpy about this.

"See, any guy who didn't leave a note can't be half as cool as you are," Rikku said. Something was tugging at her memory, here. "Wait, when was this? Last Tuesday? Monday? Something like that?"

"Probably," Warren agreed. "It was before Sunday anyhow. I usually see her Sundays."

Sundays were, after all, when she'd crash into Fina to visit.

"I thought that was Reno." Rikku stared at Warren. "'Cause he got me flowers and all? But why would he get Momo cookies? That's just weird."

Warren blinked. And then wrinkled his nose and shrugged a little.

"He's your boyfriend, right? Loud guy. Does that radio show on Tuesdays with the girl I burned the baby with in class?"

See? Warren totally paid attention to who was who.

"I don't see why he'd get her cookies. Especially not with a note."

"Nine months now," she agreed happily. "So he'd better not be leaving strange girls cookies."

She didn't seem all that concerned that he might, no.

"Huh. I wonder if some guy was just giving out lots of cookies, to girls he thought were hot or whatever?" Blink. "Okay, let's not tell Reno that."

Warren really wasn't smirking at all. Really.

"Let's not tell just Reno that? I wonder how many other girls in the school with boyfriends wound up with cookies."

It was entirely possible that someone out there was a dead man.

"They might not all have boyfriends who know how to dislocate someone's spine," she pointed out helpfully. "But wow, I can't believe whoever-it-is got off this light. And what was he trying to do, if he didn't sign the notes?"

Warren gave his head a shake.

"I guess until we find out who did it, we probably won't know for sure," he replied. "Clearly he didn't slip anything into the cookies, or the girls in the school would have noticed by now, right?"

Warren didn't trust anything that didn't come with a signature as a general rule. And even then, the authenticity of strange cookies tended to be rather suspect.

Rikku's eyes widened. "Slip something? Like a love potion? Or some kinda weird toxic thing? You don't think --"

She had eaten those cookies, dammit.

"In Fandom?"

...

Seriously, did she need him to explain further?

"Okay," Rikku said, narrowing her eyes. "I say we do an investigative series and figure out who's been sending cookies around, and whether they're dangerous. And you should get her chocolates and be smart enough to sign them."

Because that was still the important part. Sort of.

Dammit, was he blushing again?

He would have to conveniently conceal this fact by ducking his head in sudden interest over his donut. Hey. Sprinkles.

"Raspberry truffles are her favorite," he conceded. And then- OH LOOK A DIVERSION! "I don't investigate, I rant," Warren pointed out.

To the donut.

"Good," Rikku said. "Get her some. For when you hang out on Sunday. And say something nice about her eyes. She has nifty eyes, did you notice?"

She could handle the investigation or whatever. Or maybe hand it off to her favorite Turk. Not what was crucial.
