Flight Club [Flight Shed, 2pm]

Gavin was setting out some cookies, chips and drinks while everyone filed in for Flight Club. Snacking was one of his favorite things to do so sharing the love seemed like a nice thing to do.

Once everyone was there, he started talking.

"Hey guys," he started. "Welcome back. Hope everyone's weekend was fun. Mine was boring but that's how it usually goes. So today, we're going to try something a little different. We're going to be flying X-Wings but the X-Wings are going to be malfunctioning. It's a problem you can run into on almost anything that flies and you just have to know how to be calm and how to assess the situation. You don't have to repair the X-Wing while you're flying it. The big thing here is to keep flying, and the problem won't prevent that, while you've got warning whistles and lights flashing at you. Don't get scared and don't let go of the controls."

He paused for any questions.

"The X-Wing's gonna shake you around a bit, toss you about like it's really malfunctioning but remember, you're safe. Just try to maintain your calm and keep flying."

With that, he gestured to the sim for the first person to take his or her turn.

Feeling particularly pleased with himself, John crunched some snacks and considered how he'd stop from crashing his X-Wing. Especially now that it was much more realistic that he'd need the knowledge.

Ella wasn't really a member; she was at the club as part of her assignment for Art of War. She took a seat on the edge of the action and watched the group, willing to follow Ben's lead in what to do.

Anakin was there, keeping a special eye on students he knew had been in malfunctioning ships before. He didn't want anyone to be traumatized.

Ben smiled at her, trying to quell his own nervousness. "Have you ever flown?"

"Not unless Liir's broom counts," Ella admitted. "Nothing with a motor."

She hesitated before answering her next question, but Ben did look rather young. "have you bee doing it long?"

"Most of my life," Ben said. "My parents both fly all the time."

Momoko munched on a cookie as she waited her turn and tried to understand. "So basically we just keep flying? Huh."

She wondered if the warnings and alarms included the simulated voice of a scientist/engineer/mechanic lecturing at you when you didn't immediately stop and come back to base to get the broken whatchamascienceymcmeteroscope-thingie fixed.

Momoko remembered 'Fuzzy' from Gun Club last week, so she decided to go ahead and ask the Professor about it.

"Hi Professor Skywalker! Thanks for being the sponsor of the club and all! It's nice to be able to fly, even if it's simulated." Momoko smiled and tilted her head. "But can I ask... why you didn't tell your class the names of the baby Ewoks they had to babysit? How were they supposed to talk to them if they didn't know their names?"

"Oh, good," Ella said, relieved. "I'd be happy to go up with you, if you want, or I could try a turn in the machine on my own. Is it terribly hard to crash?"

"They could have asked me," he said, looking a little confused. "In class, after class, in my office hours if they were so interested. But if I do this again, I'll be sure to give them all nametags, all right?"

He paused. "And you are?"

"It's really, really easy to crash," Ben said, "especially if you don't know what you're doing, or you're near something with gravity. Out in space, you can just spin forever and only make yourself really, really sick."

That they hadn't asked had totally had not crossed her mind and she nodded slowly, then grinned. "I'm Momoko Akatsutsumi!" She gave a small salute. "And don't worry, I'm not in any of your actual classes. Not yet, at least. But one of my friends is, though, and we were talking about the baby and we didn't know what to call it, or if it was even a boy or a girl. We worried about the poor thing growing up with a complex and since I knew you from here, I thought I'd ask if there was a reason behind it."

John's lip curled into a half-smile. "Guess I'm not too good with hiding my mood."
