Basics of Alchemy - Monday, Period Five - 11/09

A rather jittery Abby Irene was at the front of the class room today, trying her best not to scratch behind her ears and sniff things. This bit about the place turning her into a dog was fine, but a week had been irritating and the fact that it came without warning for her to make arrangements for her class?

"My deepest apologies, class," she said with a sigh as they filed in, "that I could not make arrangements last week for you all. As such, as you can see perhaps, we will not be doing any practical work today. Instead, we'll be covering two of the metals in lecture and discussion: copper and iron."

She went on for a while on the two metals.

Honestly, considering her foul up, she wouldn't mind a bit of chatter today, but discussing the fact that she still had a few doggish tics would probably get you detention.

"Copper and Iron," she said with a faint smile as she finished up her lecture.

"There have been various uses of either, but as this class gives us the unique opportunity, I would like to discuss not just each one individually but together."

"Copper and Iron are often found bound up in one another. What do you think this says about the two metals? Also, what do you think it says about the alchemical concepts of masculine and feminine?"

"Iron is said to be a metal not just of Vulcan but of Mars as well. Yet these two gods are very different, and often have conflicting interests. What do you think this might say about the nature of iron?"

"Copper is found in higher percentages in the female body. Iron, higher percentages in the male body. Do you think, then, that these connotations are a result of this or simply a sympathetic coincidence?"

"What do you think could be alchemical or practical uses for iron or copper, from what we've learned?

"And can you think of a use which would require both of them?"

"Didn't learn this today, but faeries hate iron," Harry offered.

They are awesome and amazing and should be pinging in in a moment.

Sam was there with his books and notes, as usual.

Savannah was here taking notes.

Yes, she did have a basket containing a sleeping baby lynx with her.

Who sniffed at her velvet bag every few minutes.

Even if she tried to pretend she didn't. Really.

Okay, my deepest apologies for a lack of class last week. The TAs were awesome and prepared to put up class and then gmail and myself decided to fail utterly by not actually sending the class activity and not checking it had been sent, respectfully.

Anyway, OMG back from Seattle/Portland and JETLAG BRAIN but yay for playing again loves you all zomg?
