Survival Skills [Wednesday, Period Four]

Unlike the previous two weeks, today the Danger Shop was set up to look like the picturesque Welsh mountain ranges Bond was terribly fond of dragging out for classes like this. A small table was set up near where Bond was standing, with maps and compasses lying on it.

"In and of itself, orienteering is a family of sports, rather than a survival skill," he began once the class had finished arriving. "However, it requires a firm grasp of navigation skills, which makes it a perfect practical exercise to learn those skills." Bond continued his explanation of the hows and whys of orienteering for a while before gesturing towards the table.

"This class I would like you all to split up into pairs and complete the courses indicated on the maps," he said. "Every map has a different course indicated so there's no need to treat this like a race."

[ooc: wait for ocd up.]

Definitely not wanting to get lost and eaten by bears or potentially having to eat other people, Turtle was taking very, very careful notes. True, it didn't look like a place where there'd be many bears, or people for that matter, but it never hurt to be prepared.

Amber listened and was looking around while doing so. Seemed kind of barren, these mountains. But yay for getting to do something fun!

Gwynn was listening carefully.

Hurley fidgeted. This was gonna be a tough, sweaty class, he feared.

"Hi, Hurley," Amber said when she approached him. "You have a partner yet?"

Hurley shook his head. "Nope," he said. "You ready for... Orienting?"

"Yah," she nodded, patting her bag. "Ready as I'll ever be."

Triela was frowning and looking around. She didn't actually have all that many outdoor skills. That meant she needed to find a competent partner...

Chewing her bottom lip a little, Turtle looked around for a partner, hoping to find someone competent, because it seemed pretty important in a task such as this.

Hurley set forth, totally not sure what he was doing.

"Man, if there was just a wire in the ground or something, this would be totally easier."

She chuckled. "That would be too easy," she answered, checking out their map for their current course. "You know? I've never even heard of orienteering before today. Have you?"

Hurley shook his head. "Never," he said. "But I guess it's not real big in big cities."

Ender could not be around today on account of being in space. And in another galaxy. Meep.
