In the music room as usual, Chad waited, strumming his guitar lightly, for the rest of the club to arrive. "Hey, guys," he greeted them when they came in. "Sorry about no club last week, but we're here these week, so we'll just have to play extra to make up for it."

"I wanted to talk, for a moment, about a fundraiser idea. Since it's music club, a karaoke contest would be a really neat idea, I think. We can charge a base entrance fee, put that toward a grand prize, and anything left over goes to the club as a whole. I was thinking maybe December 2nd; that's a Tuesday, so we'd have club, anyway. What do you guys think? Any ideas of what the fee could be? Or the prize?"

"I also thought," Chad cleared his throat, because he wasn't used to talk so much, "we could play a game today. Everyone can go around and give one lyric from a song, and everyone else can guess what the song is. And, if you're from a place with different music, or someone mentions something you don't know but like, then you can find out what it is and try to find it and discover something new."

Put in your two cents about the karaoke contest.

Any issues with December 2nd?

Any suggestions for an entrance fee and prize? Chad's thinking maybe five dollars, because it's cheap, and if at least ten people sign up, that covers a fifty dollar prize.

"I like this idea," Savannah nodded. "Maybe a prize that's musically related?"

"How about a gift certificate to Groovy Tunes?"

"I like the idea to keep it music related," Chad said, "but I think more people would want to participate with a cash prize they could use anywhere rather than a certificate they could only use one place, you know? And with the cash prize, since there's an entrance fee, it's like they're contributing and can get their money back if they win, so they'll try harder..."

Penelope was very much worried about this. Having to sing in front of people. Would she have to sing? Who has to sing?

She looked worried but kept her thoughts to herself.

Start a thread with a lyric and have a guess! Or just talk about what it was and why you picked it with your fellow club members.

"Here's my lyric," Savannah said.

"What if I cried my eyes out and begged you not to part?
But now I'm not afraid to say what's in my heart"

Chad thought a moment about his first lyric.

"Still feel your hair, black ribbons of coal
Touch my skin to keep me whole."

It was tempting to play along with the lines, but that would give away the tune, and maybe make it too easy.

Grab an instrument, warm up your voice, and just chill a bit and play some tunes.

Robin stood up on his chair, and cleared his throat nervously, hoping to get people's attention.

"Uhm, hi everyone. Uh, a few weeks ago, my best friend from over the summer died." He had to pause to collect himself. Just because he could talk about it now didn't mean it didn't hurt.

"And, uhm, I found this recording of her, singing a song from her favorite movie, and I was hoping I could get some help in, doing something with it, like, recording a band backing her up, and maybe harmonizing too?"

"I'm willing to help you, Robin."

"Thank you Savannah."

"I got bass if you need it," Chad offered.

"Thanks Chad that'd be great!"

As always, Chad and his guitar were ready to mesh music with the other members.

Mike was there, and he was excited about the plans for a karaoke contest.

I keep looking at the Jam Time thread and thinking I totally want some PB&J right now.

Hey, may Robin bring up a project he'd like to work on? Getting a band together to do a single using a recording of his dead friend.

Sure. Please do so in the jamming section, please, for my OCD's sake. That, and it also gives it a casual feel so that it's not a directly club related thing, but something the club will help out with, if that makes sense.
