Home Economics [Class 8] - Tuesday

The set-up was a little different today when the students came into the home ec classroom; instead of the cooking stations that they'd presumably come to expect there were tables with sewing machines, and various implements for the use thereof.

"We're starting a new unit today," Lulu began her lecture, "moving into the textiles part of the class. This means that we're learning new equipment."

Lulu explained the various parts of the sewing machine. She also explained threading the machine. [[And part two.]

"What I'd like to do now," Lulu said, "is have you each try doing some stitches: thread your machines, and then take some scraps of fabric and sew them together. In this way, you can learn how the machines work and get a feel for them.

"Feel free to offer each other help," she said, in such a way that made it clear she was saying, 'Feel free to talk amongst yourselves.' "As well, there are moddable drinks, and pastries from JGoB. A relaxed day today, I think."

Summer attempted the assignment. She wasn't exactly succeeding.

Sam attempted the assignment. He had a feeling he was going to be lucky if he didn't sew his good hand.

Francine knew her way around a sewing machine well enough to hem her own jeans, at least, so sewing a couple of fabric scraps together wasn't giving her much trouble.

Hoshi was not eating the inappropriately-named cookies. Cooking was easy, but today she was having just as much trouble as everyone else with the sewing machines.

She would keep at it until she got it just perfect, though.

Viki... well.

Gave it her best shot. It wasn't very good though.

Would you object to Harry's sewing machine going a bit wonky due to Harry being Harry?

Nothing major. Just jamming constantly or something like that. Something mildly frustrating due to too many moving parts for a poor wizard boy to deal with?

Sewing, Harry decided after the third time his machine stopped working for whatever reason, was something best done by hand. Or by non-wizardly people. People who could make the machine keep going at a steady pace instead of starting then stopping then going at ludicrous speed. people who didn't need to unjam one bit of the machine or another 7 times. People who weren't Harry, basically.

He kept trying and eventually managed to attach one mangled scrap of cloth to another. This did not bode well for the future.
