Care for Magical Creatures; Period One. [ 10/27 ]

"Good morning, students! I hope you all had a very good weekend with your various guests and family members. I was very pleased to meet some of them and the weekend has taught me two very important lessons! One is that no one likes an emo magician. No one. And the other is to keep your hamsters away from poker tables! Now let us get to class!"



"Today, we talk about a subject that is very near and dear to my heart, because, before I retired to come teach you kids the ways of the magical world, I was a dedicated ranger mercenary! A ranger is truly attuned to the natural world, as well as the magical, and possesses skills that may prove very helpful not only in recognizing where magical creatures may be, but also how to handle and deal and take care of them! They are wise and perceptive," sometimes, when they hadn't been exposed to an ungodly number of headwounds, anyway, "skilled in steal and, most of all, tracking!"

"We have talked about a great many type of magical creature in class so far, and there are many more out there. Today, we will be trying our hand at trying to identify certain signs, and see if we can discern what magical creatures have been in the area! I am of course available to help should anyone need it, and working with a partner might be an excellent idea to help solve the puzzles nature leaves behind for us."

"Also, I would like to take a moment to talk about identifying certain plants, as well," Minsc continued, following it with a long lecture on some of the most important herbs and poisons a ranger should always keep an eye out for.

"Please, feel free to ask any questions and go forth and see how many of the puzzles you can figure out. And, remember, following the trail of something always lends itself to that something being at the end of the trail, so be prepared! Do not be discouraged, however! Natural ranger aptitude is not for everyone!"

Then, Minsc chuckled a little. "And, no, there is not a scenario in which the elusive beast you are tracking is an unwanted relative."

His face dropped into a slightly annoyed scowl as he muttered, "Or an annoying maudlin little elf mage."

Ella took a lot of notes. Mandy used herbs in her healing magics, and of course she knew of other plants with certain effects, but it was interesting to hear such a broad overview.

This is a good time to grab a partner if you'd like to work with one and also take a moment or two to prepare yourself for the chance that your tracking leads to an actual creature. Moddable supplies, weapons, and armour are all available!

Ella armed herself with a broadsword, then waited for a partner. She'd promised Mandy not to go looking for trouble, and tracking a creature (even a computer-generated one) alone would seem to qualify.

Tracking Scenarios -- 10/27.

When you've got an idea of which you'd like to try, just ping into that particular sub-thread! Just to note, some scenarios may have different results, and more clues may reveal themselves as you explore.

Scenario 1 -- 10/27.

This scenario will lead you into a dark, thickly covered wood. The ground beneath your feet occasionally seems peppered with many hooves. Many of the branches of the lower trees and shrubs have been broken, it seems, and there are large patches of grass that have been forced down.

Scenario 2 -- 10/27.

This scenario includes many great, clawed footprints leading into the dark mouth of a large cave.

Scenario 3 -- 10/27.

This scenario involves many small little clawed footprints scattered around a much, much smaller hole in a rock.

Scenario 4 -- 10/27.

This scenario will take you into a wetter marsh, where no footprints seem to stay, but there is a strange sort of residue on some of the trees.

Scenario 5 -- 10/27.

This scenario takes you down by the beach, where there are a few outcroppings of rocks, several big enough for caves, and you might notice long, dragging tracks in the sand.

Scenario 6 -- 10/27.

The last scenario takes you up into the mountains, where the ground is too hard to retain many tracks. There are a lot of outcroppings, however, and several plants that seem to be a source of food for something...

...something's eating something, anyway, if the notable droppings on the trail are any indication.
