Cooking Club [Home Ec Classroom, Thursday, 1pm]

Ned lugged a few heavy bags into the Home Ec classroom in preparation for today's Cooking Club. He really should have planned better and recruited someone to help carry the bags but what's done was done. He was here now and he could go about setting things up.

"Um, hey," he greeted once everyone had made it into the classroom. "Hope everyone had a good break week. Mine wasn't bad. So, today, we're going to carve pumpkins in preparation for Halloween and the fall season. What does this have to do with cooking? Well, the innards of a pumpkin can be used to make pumpkin pie. Yeah, really. Pumpkin pie doesn't just come in a can. We won't be doing that today since it's a little intensive but sometime in the future we'll make some kind of pie. I just wanted to relate the carving of pumpkins to cooking."

With that said, Ned rolled out several pumpkins for people to carve.

"Please be careful with the knives but don't worry about getting dirty with this. It's more fun that way."

He grinned and started going to work digging out the contents of his own pumpkin.

[Wait for zee OCD is up!]

Before Hurley attacked the pumpkins, he thought about what he was going to carve, and was very open to suggestions.

Hurley managed to actually have some skill (http://dispatchesfromtheisland.blogspot.com/2008/10/still-9-days-away.html) at carving pumpkins.

Liir didn't have much skill, but he had patience, which is why his came out relatively well.

He didn't quite have a pattern for what he'd done, but the image of the strange lizard-like creature crouched over the face of a clock was unmistakable.

"That's pretty cool," Chris remarked from where he was working on his own pumpkin.

Liir looked back at who'd spoken with a bashful grin.

"Thank you," he said, though he wasn't sure if it wasn't just a bit too creepy. "What're you doing?"

Ewwww, pumpkin guts! Francine giggled as she set to drawing a goofy, lopsided face on hers in Magic Marker, in preparation for cutting it.

Chad...was going through several pumpkins.

It was simply that, with his carving skills, everything he made just seemed to come out remind him of a Hollow and that was just not something he wanted to deal with right now.

Eventually, he gave up on faces and just carved a pumpkin with a big music note on it.

Eeep!

*hugs*

I've gotten those in the middle of the night. Not a pleasant way to wake up.
