Survival Skills [Wednesday, Period Four]

Today the Danger Shop was decked out to look like a screening room, complete with a large platter of what looked to be ham sandwiches there for the taking.

"Good afternoon," Bond began once the class was settled. "I trust you all enjoyed your break. Now, since your mid-term is next week, this class with be something of an easy one, as you'll be watching a film about survival in the mountains. So just sit back, take a sandwich, and pay attention to the screen."

[ooc: wait for ocd up.]

...see, what they should have had was some sandwiches in those mountains. Turtle jotted down some notes in her notebook, the most prominent of which was Always be prepared and plan ahead to avoid future cannibalism.

Triela happened to glance over at Turtle's note.

"Good idea," she said softly.

"Well," Turtle whispered back, "sandwiches do freeze very well; if they'd have had more with them, they wouldn't have to eat each other."

It seemed very basic logic to her, although, admittedly, she noticed that the voice in her head that told her about it sounded an awful lot like Jeff's.

"Right. And there's always canned food."

"Just as long as you remember a can opener!" Turtle chirped with a little bit of a grin.

And a plan to never, ever fly anywhere again with at least some food.

"Yeah," Triela nodded. "Wouldn't that be ironic? Having a whole bunch of canned food and no can opener?"

"Well," Turtle mused, "at least then you'd have a blunt object to hit who you end up deciding is dinner with?"

Canopener.

Always keeping a can-opener on her. In her luggage, of course, because that would probably not be an approved item for a carry-on.

"So I guess this survival thing just takes some forethought, huh? Pretty simple when you think about it."

Turtle nodded with a sort of movie-dulled enthusiasm. "Uh-huh," she agreed, and then grinned at Triela a little. "Then again, you're talking to a sixteen year old with a legally endorsed will, so no one needs to tell me about forethought."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Triela laughed. "Well, better to have it and not need it, right?"

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Exactly!" Turtle's emphatic nod gained a bit more enthusiasm, with her grin. "Same goes for Spam in your suitcase with your socks."

"Oh, and you could get those cans that don't need a can opener. You know, in case something happens to yours."

Re: Watch the Movie - SurSki [Week 7]

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Right! What a great idea, you know, those cans made to open without an opener. Why didn't they think of that sooner?"

Re: Watch the Movie - SurSki [Week 7]

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"I bet people tried and failed for years." Triela grinned, "What do you imagine the first few attempts looked like?"

Turtle put her hand over her mouth to help hide her giggling a little. "Awful," she mused. "Probably really clunky, and, like, they made the cans uneven so that they never stood up right, they just kept fall in people's cupboards and rolling off the counters."

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"And they wouldn't open, or they opened too easily," Triela suggested.

"Always the opposite of what you wanted!" Turtle added with a snort.

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
"That's just how things go, huh?" Triela threw in a theatrical sigh for good measure.

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Murphy's Law!" Turtle, though grinning, shook her head. "But any law's got a loophole."

Re: Watch the Movie - SurSki [Week 7]

[identity profile] sorella-vecchia.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"I think Murphy's is that it works for both sides of anything."

Re: Watch the Movie - SurSki [Week 7]

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-10-23 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
"That's true," Turtle agreed, nodding. "Because there's always someone who will benefit from someone else's failure, thus negating the law, and if the law is negated, then it doesn't exist, and nothing might not go wrong."

"Um..." Triela had a hard time following that one.

"Sure?"
