Flight Club [Flight Shed, 2pm]

Gavin was back in front of the flight shed today after missing last week due to the break. He nodded as people filed in and waited till everyone was here before starting.

"Welcome back," he said and smiled. "Sorry about last week. Apparently my brain was on break too. But, we're back today. And I think we're good to start testing out the simulator today. I stuck it on the X-Wing program because that's what I know and wasn't sure what everyone else really knew. It's on an easy setting, easy environment. Today's mostly about getting used to the controls, flying carefully and flying straight. It's not that hard, I promise."

He gestured to the flight sim. "Take your time, if you crash, don't worry. It's not real, I promise. That planet's Tatooine so it's full of sand. Nice soft landing."

He grinned and let everyone give the sim a try.

[OCD is up! Go play!]

Johnny was more awake now than he'd been this morning, and the thought of flying, even in a sim, was awesome.

Worf... not so much with the chit chat as standing at attention and waiting his turn.

Occasionally he'd pull out a data padd and review some sort of technical information.

Ben tilted his head at Worf. "What species are you?" he finally asked politely.

"Klingon," Worf replied gruffly. "Though not of this universe. I assume you are human?"
momslilassassin: (Ben: aren't I cute?)

Ben nodded. "Different galaxy, though," he said. "I'm Ben. Um, Skywalker."

"Worf. Son of Mogh," he said offering his hand for a handshake. "So are you familiar with this type of space travel?"
momslilassassin: (Ben: small smile)

"Very," Ben said, shaking Worf's hand. "These ships are a little out-of-date where I come from. There have been a number of upgrades. My dad used to fly these."

"For a simulation I'm sure they are... adequate," Worf replied. "Though the single person fighter seems inadequate for general transportation. I assume you have other types available?"
momslilassassin: (Ben: I have a hood!)

Re: Chitter Chatter

[personal profile] momslilassassin 2008-10-22 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Tons," Ben said, "but they're not as much fun to fly. How many beings were you thinking of transporting?"

Re: Chitter Chatter

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"None," Worf replied, "I was just curious of the variety of space craft you have available."

He then pulled up a design (http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Ambassador_class) of a starship currently employed by Starfleet. "For instance this is one of the ships Starfleet currently uses for exploration."
momslilassassin: (Ben: its on the book cover)

"Oh, nice," Ben said. "I like the lines of it. It's probably equivalent to our, um, medium cruisers? They're about 500 meters across. The heavy ones get up to 600 meters, and then you get into the Star Destroyers, which are just kind of huge."

Re: Chitter Chatter

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Worf raised his eyebrows at the mention of the Star Destroyers. "Interesting. By the name I assume that the destroyers are for heavy combat?"
momslilassassin: (Ben: I have a hood and am looking down)

Re: Chitter Chatter

[personal profile] momslilassassin 2008-10-22 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ben nodded. "They don't exactly have the friendliest name, huh?" he admitted. "They were named because their firepower could take out an entire system. And that's just the little ones. The Star Cruisers are bigger. And the Super Star Destroyers--well, they don't make those any more, but they were over three klicks long."

Re: Chitter Chatter

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"So that would be approximately 3,000 meters?" Worf asked dubiously. "Your universe must have quite a lot of resources."
momslilassassin: (Ben: I am drenched wtf)

Re: Chitter Chatter

[personal profile] momslilassassin 2008-10-22 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ben nodded. "At least when it comes to make war machines," he said a little bitterly. "It's what we've been doing for at least a hundred years."

John was looking forward to taking a turn in the sim. He seemed to be taking the whole thing a little more seriously for some reason.

Jaina, looking less scary than usual, was kind of planning on going last and programming the sim to a way more challenging program. Because she had her own squadron of these. And a clawcraft. Details.

Momoko was bouncing with excitement. Sure it was a simulator, but it was still a SHIP! She was gonna fly! It was HOW long since she'd been grounded from using the Dy.Na.Mo Z?

Of course he went fast, trying to push it as fast as it would go without fear of losing control.

Re: Flight Sim

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2008-10-22 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The controls weren't what Worf was completely used to using but after a few minutes of experimentation he was able to pull off a few neat maneuvers.

Anemone remembered this from her class with Master Skywalker, and practically bounced into the sim.

She started slow and easy to re-familiarize herself with the controls, but quickly escalated to see how far she could push the X-Wing's limits.

She took a few minutes to familiarize herself with the basic controls, but Momoko was soon zooming along as fast as she could figure out how to make it go. Which may not have been as fast as some, but she was in a SHIP!

"Wahoooooo!"

During his turn, John flew fast but safe. It was as if he had something to prove. Weird, that.

Anakin was around, wondering if it would be tacky if he asked for a turn, too.
