Basics of Alchemy - Monday, Period Five - 10/20

Abby Irene spent the weekend exploring New York and as such, had come back with something of a happy glow about her. It was not New Amsterdam (that much was blatantly apparent) but there was some spirit to the City which had fed the empty part of her left wanting by the small, relatively crime-free island.

That wasn't to say, of course, that there was no work to do.

"Silver, as you are more than likely aware, has a number of different associations and uses. It is cool where gold is warm, the moon where gold is the sun, and is linked to all things flexible, creative, and emotionally intelligent. According to those who use chakra techniques, it is also related to the third eye, the sixth chakra. To us, it also represents a certain amount of self-analysis and reflection. Funnily enough, it is also used in electronics and as such has some association with technology.

"Alchemically, silver was important enough that procedures are used to give silver-like qualities to other materials. The process, called simply enough 'silvering' was started in the Arabic branches of the art.

"Medically, silver iodide is used frequently to prevent blinding in infants due to bacterial contamination and silver nitrate was used, here, in medicine for quite some time. Silver is also used as a cauterizing agent by some professionals, and it's antiseptic and antibacterial properties have made it's use more widespread than some might think. Colloidal silver, as you might have guessed, is also a common medical treatments, used often to prevent and help with colds and flue, but also in the treatment of diabetes, cancer, fatigue, and tuberculosis."

[ocd up!]
