Physics, Monday, Class #7, Period 4

"Good afternoon, everyone," she greeted the class, glancing up as they entered. "I hope you all enjoyed your week off and have recovered from Homecoming sufficiently to be fully mortified when your parents show up this weekend, because yes, we live to torture you."

Sam grinned. Obviously they didn't (as far as she knew), but the timing was a bit coincidental. "In what is continuing to be an incredibly brief overview of physics, today we'll start discussing relativity. As you can see from the handouts, sometimes the umbrella of relativity also encompasses the theory of Galilean, or Newtonian Relativity, depending on who you're talking to, but in most cases, people who discuss relativity really mean either Albert Einstein's theories of special relativity or general relativity."

"So, why do we care? At least in this time period," and here, she may have smirked just a tiny bit, "we believe that relativity is the key to figuring out not just time travel, time dilations, and gravitational time delay, we also believe that it's the key to interstellar travel at faster than light speeds."

Another grin. "Trust me, this is a good thing. Plus, I have my suspicions that it's part of what makes Fandom possible."

"I realize that I've thrown a lot of material at you in a very short time, so I'll give you the rest of the period to process the information, to look through the handouts, to ask questions, and to work on your final projects if you want."

That relativity thing was going to give him a headache, he was sure of it. So working on the project seemed a good distraction.

"Are we still working together?" Romeo asked.

"I thought so," he paused. "Aren't we?" Well, technically, they hadn't really done a whole lot of actual work, but... There was time?
withoutverona: (from a distance)

"I thought so," Romeo agreed. "This month has not been the best for my academic focus, though, so I wanted to check in."

Which meant he had done exactly nothing.

Yeah, I hear you. Which meant he had done exactly as much as Romeo had. "Maybe we should meet up at the library later on, decide exactly which one we're going to be building?"
withoutverona: (Looking down)

"I'd like that," Romeo said, not exactly a model of enthusiasm but reasoning it was as good a plan as anything. "I can find the time any day but Wednesday."

Might as well grab the bull by its horns. "Tomorrow's good? Do you know how big these things got to be?"
withoutverona: (not ashamed)

"Tomorrow's fine," Romeo confirmed. "I have a class fifth period, but my day is free before that."

"I don't remember Ms. Carter mentioning a size ... big enough to throw a pumpkin, I expect."

"Small or big pumpkin?" he asked with a smirk, just being backwards now.
withoutverona: (smile like sunshine)

That drew a genuine smile. "It's less work for us if it's a small pumpkin," Romeo pointed out.

"See, I like the way you think," Ichigo decided. "And if it's not too big, we could salvage it later on to annoy people."
withoutverona: (now that you mention it...)

"I'm a senior; I should have to do as little work as possible," Romeo proclaimed. "What kind of annoying do you have in mind?"

"Well, pumpkins seem like they might actually hurt if they hit you, but water balloons wouldn't," he mused.
withoutverona: (probably going for his smokes)

Romeo blinked several times. "I thought you meant salvaging the pumpkin," he admitted. "Yes, a water balloon catapult is a much better idea."

"Well, you can make bad pumpkin soup from it," he considered.
withoutverona: (Making a point)

"After it's been thrown from a catapult?" Romeo countered, making a face.

Ichigo stared at him. "I think I like the water balloon idea better."

Romeo stared right back. He wasn't the one who had brought up pie. "As do I."

Soup. He'd brought up soup. And it was just that it was the only thing he could think of that you can do with pumpkins.

"I wonder how high we could make it shoot," he pondered, deciding to ignore the pumpkin fiasco. Not that he was considering besieging the dorms.
withoutverona: (thoughtful and rather droll)

Soup, pie, ravioli -- Romeo still didn't think a pumpkin that had been through a catapult would be edible in any form, even if his mun failed reading comprehension.

"I've no idea," he admitted instead. "A few floors, perhaps? We could make that one of our goals, to get as much height as possible."

Ichigo had to agree there, which was why he was pretending he'd never said it to begin with.

"It could be cool," he said, already imagining it. "Our goal to wake up as many annoying people as early as possible." He felt like being annoying today.

"But then we need to get up early too," Romeo mused. "Perhaps if we do it on a weekend, so most people are sleeping in."

Sokka looked around for Hoshi. He had a pretty detailed design for a huge cast-iron steam-powered monstrosity capable of chucking a dozen pumpkins at once.

A row of calculations down the side declared that the range would be approximately 13 inches, but those were crossed out. A second set of calculations put the range at approximately 34 miles. Those were also crossed out, and a third set of calculations completely failed to come to any result whatsoever.

Ugh. Projects. Chad was feeling relatively hopeless at this one at the moment, and looked around for Tosh, hoping she might be a little more on the ball.
