Young Entrepreneurs Club; Thursday 2pm -- 10/09.

It was the first meeting of the Young Entrepreneurs Club and, even with everything buzzing in Turtle's head for homecoming, she was ready to go and very excited and even a little bit nervous, although things like this should be old hat for her. She waited until everyone came into the classroom before greeting them.

"Hello! Thank you all for joining Young Entrepreneurs! Hopefully, we'll have a very good semester and make a little money, because that's what entrepreneuring is all about! Today, we're going to introduce ourselves by way of one of the most important items an entrepreneur can have: a business card. If you already have a business card, great! If you don't, there's some sturdy paper, pen, and markers, and you can make a makeshift one, with your name, what sort of business you're really interested in, or anything else you'd like to include. Mine has a little Turtle & Canary emblem in the corner, see? So let's take a few minutes to do that and then we'll just chat and stuff today!

"For next week, I'd like you all to think of lots of great ideas on what we can produce this semester to sell for the benefit of the club, okay?"

"I'm Ned," he said and held up his oh so creative business card. He needed to learn to draw ASAP. "And I...bake. A lot. I have a dog too. His name's Digby. But the card's pretty simple and that's about how I am."

Turtle bounced a little at Ned's introduction. "Yay! Hi, Ned! I'm really happy to see you in the club!" And it was pretty clear, too, by her beaming smile, although she was pretty excited over-all. This just added to it.

"Thanks," he said and blushed a little but managed to cover it with one of his hands. "Me and my business card are happy to be here."

"These are just temporary business cards, anyway," Turtle said, waving a hand. "We'll meet another time at the computer lab to make up some really fancy ones for when it gets close to promoting whatever project we'll do this semester."

"Excuse me," Alice said cheerfully. "Did you happen to bring any pie with you?"

It was a valid question, and she hadn't had dessert at lunch.

He winced and shook his head. "Sorry, no. I had some earlier for my cooking club but we ate it all. I can bring one next time?"

"That would be lovely," she laughed. "Though it's hardly a requirement. Nor is it from any entrepreneurial perspective. I'm just fond of pie."

Turtle held out her very professional business card, simple with accents of green and that nice little logo. "I'm T.R. Wexler, and I'm the president of this club. Many of you probably already know me not only as the proprietor of Turtle & Canary, but also from my work in radio and student council, among many other things. I'm very excited for our club, and I"m positive that we will have a great time!"

Jack was peering at his card. It looked a bit...amateur. "I'm Jack. And I deliver."

Maybe a doodle of a semi would look nice?

"Hi, Jack." Turtle gave him a smile and a wave. "Good to see you decided to join us. That's an excellent slogan, too, with the double meaning and everything."

"Indeed it is," he grinned back at her, waving.

Double meaning? Wha? Oh! Right! Jack's grin went up a notch.

"My name is Alice Liddell," Alice said, standing. "I have never entrepreneured before. Is that word one that can be used as a verb? For my business card (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/alice/buscard.jpg), I wrote my name and several of my finer qualities, and then I filled in most of the white space with drawings and doodles."

Just like they did in the Fortune 500, really.

Turtle's head tilted slightly. She did rather like the doodles; the last note was a little curious, but she had to be professional with her opinion.

"I like the doodles," she admitted, "but I think it would be a stronger card without them. But it's very nice to have you here, Alice, even if you've never entrepreneured before."

Clearly, Turtle thought the word usage was a-okay.

"I could try again?" Alice offered. "Though I doubt I'd get all of the writing half so neat. Perhaps I could make different cards for different occasions. Am I soliciting someone to hire me, with these cards, or promoting myself?"

"You'll be amazed by how far that last one can get you in business," Dick said.

"Really?" Alice laughed. "I've never tried to play at business before. It's far more amusing than I had thought it would be. Should I draw anything in particular?"

"Hi! I'm Dor," he said with a wave. "I don't have a business really but part of the reason I'm here is to help trade start with my world and yours so I thought this would be a good way to learn how businesses work."

"Hi, Dor!" Turtle beamed to see him there, too, and waved a little. "You know, if you ever need any help there..."

She didn't think she needed to finish that thought.

"Understanding business?" Dor asked scratching his head. "I think I have a lot to learn there. We don't use money a lot where I'm from."

"I'm Liz Sherman," Liz said, showing her card, "um...my business card isn't really anything amazing,"

"Hi, Liz! Good to see you here!" Turtle beamed at her. "And simplicity's usually a good thing in a business card, you know."

"I'm Dick Grayson. I kept my card simple this time, but I figure the acrobat part gives it more than enough color for it to stand out," Dick said.

"...It definitely makes you memorable," Turtle admitted, head tilted with a bit of intrigue.

"At the very least, I think it gives me an edge over other young philanthropists," Dick said. "Why go with a guy who can give money to charity when you can have a guy who can give money to charity while doing a backflip?"
