Karal had a headache, which was why he was sitting at the counter, sipping willowbark tea.

The headache showed no inclination to leave, having been welcomed by the pile of work he'd received from home, so he was trying to negotiate a peace with it.

There were things he wanted to read about today, things that didn't involve problems he was expected to solve. Altra was curled up on the desk near Karal's mug, purring quietly.

No Karal today; he's gone away.

Well, not all day, just for a little while. He'll be back after class.

Second period

The headache was starting to ease, having assumed the role of mere guest rather than long term lodger, much to Karal's relief.

One more cup of tea, and he'd be off to re-shelve books.

Third period

You couldn't see Karal or Altra when you came into the library, but the quiet sounds drifting from the stacks gave a clue to their presence.

They were re-shelving books, just as Karal had planned.

Lunch

Towards the back corner of the library there was a comfy chair, and in curled up in this comfy chair was a peacefully dozing library aide.

Altra would wake him after lunch, but several very late nights in a row had left Karal sleepy.

Fourth period

Refreshed from his nap, and having ousted the headache and barred the door behind it, Karal was sitting at the counter with several books open in front of him.

Well, in front of Altra, anyway, who looked as disgusted as a Firecat could look. Not surprising, seeing as the books were all about vessels that floated on the water - with a particular emphasis on rafts.

Fifth period

The rest of the day, Karal was spending doing small chores and light tidying, leaving the library in good condition for tomorrow's aide.

I have Karal's headache, but mine is setting up housekeeping in my brain. Stupid thing.

Availability will be questionable, but I will hopefully have some. Feel free to use the library as needed without interacting with Karal as needed!
