Hunting 101 - Class 6 (Tuesday, period 5)

When the students came into the Danger Room, they found John leaning against the by-now familiar black car, the main street of a small town behind him.

"Good afternoon," John said when they all had arrived.

"As promised last week, behind me is the town of Hume. As the information you were given tells you, recently two teenage girls -- Ashley Taggart age 15 and Valerie Brown age 16 -- died under identical mysterious circumstances. They were found dead in the town's dance studio after having been practicing alone. There was no signs of violence on the bodies, according to the autopsies, their hearts just gave out.

"This is typical of the kind of information a hunt starts with. So let's see what you can make of it. Your assignment is to find out what killed those girls and stop it. You paired off last week so go to it." He smiled at them. "Impress me."

Helen looked around for her partner and her wolf.

Firekeeper and Blind Seer wandered over to Helen. "Ready?"

"I am," Helen said. "And I never asked before. What should I call you and your wolf?"

"His name is Blind Seer," Firekeeper said. "Humans, they is calling me Blysse." She bit her lip thoughtfully before continuing: "And. He not my wolf, only his own."

"Blysse, then," Helen said. She addressed her next comment to the wolf, not sure if she could speak to him in her mind as she could to many other animals. "I meant no disrespect, Blind Seer. I should have said the wolf who travels with you."

Blind Seer gave Helen his wolfish version of a bow.

"He say is okay, and at least you not assume he is just big dog like many others do." Being in Fandom for more than a moonspan now had kind of mellowed both of them, in terms of the assumptions people made and their reactions.

Helen shook her head. "I haven't seen many wolves, but I know them when I see them."

Firekeeper laughed. "Most humans is never seeing Royal-kind wolves like Blind Seer before, only smaller Cousins. So, they make mistake."

"He's royalty?" Helen said, glancing at him again. "I'm honored then."

"Is not royal in same sense that humans mean, with king and queen," Firekeeper tried to explain. "Royal Beasts is stronger, smarter than kind humans know. Bigger, when bigger size would give advantage. Like with wolves."
