Science Lab, Saturday

The door to the lab was open, and Sam was behind the desk, working on some calculations before she went back to experimenting. She'd snagged a piece of naquadriah when she'd been back in Colorado and was trying to come up with some way to harness it as a predictable energy source.

So far, she wasn't having any luck. When the phone rang, she was almost grateful for the distraction.

[ooc: Door's open, anyone's welcome to do sciencey things, and I should be around for most of the day.]

"Mooned the new vice principal," John replied casually. It'd been a paperwork error, but he didn't need to ruin his reputation.

Rodney paused for just a moment. "Nope," he said almost to himself as he shook his head. "I'm not surprised."

"Does anything surprise you, Rodney?" John asked, leaning his hip against the table and wondering what their project actually was. Maybe he should pay more attention.

"Not much," he exaggerated. "When you try to plan for the worst, you're not caught off guard nearly as often as other people." That much was true. He fiddled with some of the equipment.

"What about the good stuff?" John wondered. "No hoping for the best or making the most of things?"

"'Hope for the best, plan for the worst.' Isn't that how it goes?" Rodney asked rhetorically. "Just because I plan, that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the better things," he defended himself.

"Which explains why you're doing homework on the weekend," John supplied.

"Yes?" Rodney wasn't really sure what point John was trying to make. In fact, he doubted that John actually had a point.

John was laughing. "That's just sad."

"But, this is fun," he gestured to the lab as a whole. "Inventing something new, the experimental process, making discoveries that could one day benefit the human race and earn me a Nobel." His eyes lit up at the possibilities.

"So fame and fortune are your thing?" John asked, watching the way Rodney lit up and knowing it wasn't.

"Have I said anything about popularity or money?" Rodney practically pouted. "Not that I'd say no to some proper recognition of my vastly superior intellect once in a while," he sighed.

"Naturally," John agreed teasingly. "No chance any one else could match your brainpower."

"Exactly," he nodded, deciding to take the comment at face value.
