"Today we live in a world that is growing ever smaller," Mohinder told the class once they'd assembled in a relatively normal-looking classroom with less than normal amounts of foliage. "Places are linked with others across the globe, more people are living and working in countries not of their birth. Globalisation weaves the people of this planet into an ever finer net."

Moving to thread his fingers through one of the shrubs, Mohinder continued on the point.

"Or on a smaller scale, your breakfast tea or coffee may have travelled up to half the world to reach your cup." The screen behind Mohinder lit up as he spoke; producing regions in light blue and green flowing across the world map into consuming regions in darker shades. "Growing coffee needs a similar climate, but with variation in the rainfall, soil and atmospheric conditions a variety of caffiene delivery systems are possible."

Bringing to a halt his discussion on the geography of coffee, Mohinder began to set out a number of unmatched jars, mugs and other tea equipment. "I want you to think about how you're affected by growing globalisation - other countries, other planets if that's relevent; do we have a responsibility to the negative - sweatshops, exploitation?"

He took a cup of tea, inhaling briefly before finishing with, "Oh, and how far you would go for a good cup of tea? Or coffee too, if you must."

Listen, take notes, chatter, eat the greenery.

How far did your breakfast have to travel? Your clothes? Your books? Does globalisation occur in your place/time of origin? How would hopping back a century change things? Where's the best place to grow tea~~coffee~~ - Uganda, Columbia, etc.

There's a moddable array of coffee/teas to drink while you talk.

Rikku shrugged, awkwardly. "Where I'm from ... everybody's separated. We all get together for the blitz tournament, but that's it. You live where you live, and people don't really ... go around much. The roads are dangerous, and it takes forever to walk there. It's starting to change, now, but it's gonna take a while, you know? And ... so I hear about things like, you get your coffee from the other side of the world, and I think ... that's amazing. And I just hope we can have that, some day."

"For a good cup of tea," Karal said, smiling a little, "half-way across the world. As for the rest--" He frowned. "I'm not sure. Food here, I have no idea where any of it comes from, and it seems so far removed from where it began. In Karse, and in Valdemar, food was produced close-by. With no refrigeration and none of the packaging that is common here to preserve food, it couldn't travel very far."

Absently patting Altra, he continued, "An example of food from far away is chocolate. We don't have it in Karse, only Valdemar produces it, so it has to be brought by cart to Karse. It's a luxury, well beyond the reach of ordinary people."
