Achievements in Engineering #5, Period 2 Monday

"We're continuing our discussion from last week on how automobiles and highways improved travel," said Mike, who was feeling a little twitchy without his morning coffee. "Last week, we got to travel the Oregon Trail and see how it took months to travel across country by wagon, and you were damn lucky if you actually reached your destination. The car definitely was an improvement, and when Route 66 was finally completed in 1937, you had a national highway that stretched from Chicago to..."

He stopped in mid-sentence. "You know what? Instead of just talking about it, why don't we just take it?"

"Well where I'm from no one drives cars or those type of vehicles anymore," Naomi said, "if its Earth based travel the shuttle craft is the popular choice, but that's how it turned out in my future timeline, I don't know if the same thing will happen here,"

Ooooh, road trips. Jen had never taken a road trip, sad, sheltered, then incredibly unnaturally focused, life she'd led.

Lucas would've loved something like this -- even in simulation, although she was sure she could hear him now, talking about how the road just didn't feel quite right when it wasn't real.

"Definitely hovercars," Jen agreed. "We still have vehicles with wheels due to incredibly low budgets, but atmospheric flight is a lot more common."

"Still a killer when it comes to traffic jammed back up several thousand feet," said Bender. "Not to mention finding a parking spot."
