Survive Your Own Cooking - 3rd period - (9/24)

Today in the Danger Shop there were ingredients laid out for pancakes. Delicious, delicious pancakes.

And also some that... didn't quite fit in with a traditional pancake.

"Goood morning kids! Today we're learning about something so simple, not even we can screw it up. It's almost as easy as boiling water! We're making pancakes."

"Now, there are a bunch of varieties of them out there, so we're just going to focus on the most well known and... you know, two that I pulled from a hat and didn't throw out upon seeing because it was too damn boring and jeeze, Singapore, just keep putting fish sauce on stuff."

Shaking his head, Deadpool continued on bravely. "So! We have the traditional American pancake and the eeeeeevil French crepe with a little accent mark that I'm just not going to use out of protest of something or other. Then there is the Dutch pannenkoeken.--" Even though that clip made him think of the old cook at the cafeteria for some reason...

"--and last but not least, the Japanese okonmiyaki! Which is, I'll admit... sliiightly less traditional. But, c'mon! Who doesn't give them props for adding mayo on top of it?"

That took culinary fortitude there.

"And, yes. You get extra credit if you make okonmiyaki and actually eat it. Even more if you make it well and I get to eat it!"

It had been a while since he'd been to Kansai, don't judge him!

"Haaave fuuuu~un!"

Mmmmm, pancakes.

Hurley looked around for a partner.

Marco flopped down next to Hurley. "Can we add chocolate?"

"I don't care what the teacher says," Hurley said. "I like the way you think. Chocolate pancakes. Yes."

"The teacher is anti-chocolate?" Marco asked, having not been really paying attention as usual.

"I don't know," Hurley said. "I'm just saying, I don't care if he is. I'm pro-chocolate. Chocolate is good, dude."

"There should be chocolate in everything." Marco agreed.

"I don't know about everything," Hurley said. "Don't think chips and salsa would be better with chocolate."

Marco considered this. "Yeah, they would be. Spicy chocolate."

"...Actually, I kinda see that," Hurley said, after a moment of thought.

"I'm Hurley, by the way."

"Marco. Been around for two years now."

"Really?" Hurley said. "Pretty big for a two-year old." He laughed a little at his dumb joke. "Pancakes?"

"But I'm not old enough to use the stove!" Marco said, pitching his voice to try to hit two-year-old.

Hurley smiled. "Nice one, dude," he said. "I mean, you want to mix up the batter, I can do the... oven stuff."

Wendy read over the recipes as she looked for a partner. She liked the pancakes with beer as ingredient option. It sounded good.

Dōjima grinned and stuck her hand in the air. "I'm good at making okonmiyaki!" she yelled cheerfully. "Who wants to learn how?"

By 'good', she means 'edible', but close enough.

This was a really opportune class since Kaylee said she wanted to make pancakes. Ned waited for a partner even as he started prepping things.

Who reeeaally wanted to destroy his poor stomach with various things cooked into a pancake.

Hurley raised his hand and waited.

Deadpool pointed at him. "Crazy hair, yes!"

"What's so evil about crepes?" Hurley asked.

"Well, they're French..." Because that clearly explained everything.

"But, like, they're the tortilla of breakfast," Hurley said. "And desserts too, really."

"I don't think you're quite hip to my jive on this matter," Deadpool said slowly. "Freeeench."

"Hey, they also, like, invented the french fry, right? French fries aren't evil," Hurley said. He smiled. He liked that logic.

"Actually, it was the Belgians who invented them."

"What?" Hurley said. "Then why aren't they Belgian Fries?"

"Now that's a question!" Of course, he didn't have an answer, so...

That would be Deadpool kinda vaguely wandering thatta way.

"...so are Belgians cool? Cause if you got something against waffles, you are officially crazy," Hurley asked quickly.

"This class is about pancakes, not waffles," Deadpool replied. "Pancakes. Paaancaaaakes."

It was sad when the student body couldn't keep up with his tangents.

"Okay, Mister Teacher Dude," Hurley said. "Uhh... I guess that's all I wanted to know."

"Pancakes!" Deadpool added just one last time to make sure it stuck. "And only marginally things that are French."

God, I wanna go to IHoP now.
