StuCo elections, School Lobby, Monday morning

In lieu of Nathan's usual office hours, he instead made sure that everything was set up for the Student Council Elections. Like any proper election, he set up a boundary so that there was a safe zone for voting, and a place where last minute campaigning could happen. There was also a table with flyers in case anyone wanted to read their candidates' positions.

He also posted the rules:

ELECTION RULES:

1. You may only vote within your class
2. Freshmen vote for one candidate, all others vote for two
3. No campaigning by the voting box

Nathan debated adding something about requiring voters to bring him coffee, but he did actually believe in fair elections.

All that was left was one other sign:

Blair came over and scrutinized the muffins. "Did you make these yourself?"

Ella shook her head. "I cheated and went to Jeff's," she admitted. "I have two classes today, and I forgot to bake over the weekend."

"Probably for the best," Blair said. "It shows you support local businesses."

"And they're probably even tastier than mine would be," Ella said. "I got a nice assortment."

Her eyes were drawn to the students casting their vote. "There's so much competition in our class. Any edge helps."

"I don't suppose you saved anyone's life over the weekend?" Blair asked. "That could help."

Ella thought about it. "Um ... I ..." She didn't want to admit she'd ~~gotten shamefully neglected, WTF mun~~ spent most of the weekend in her room. "Not so much, no. Did anyone on the ballot?"

There had been a lot of names on the ballot that Blair hadn't cared about, so she hadn't paid attention.

"I won my tournament," she said instead, since she was proud of that. "Maybe associating with me will help you by proxy. Moreso than usual."

"Congratulations," Ella said. "What was the challenge?" She was imaging something like swordfighting, which was a bit of an odd mental image for Blair. "And I'd appreciate any help I could get. I probably ought to have come to you sooner."

"Proving myself superior to one of their students," Blair said. "Not that that was hard."

Ella grinned. "I'm sure you mopped the floor with her."

"I'm pretty sure I made her cry," Blair said.

"I feel like I shouldn't think that's a good thing," Elal mused.

"I won," Blair reminded her.

"Then congratulations again," Ella said again, deciding not to feel too bad for the girl from Nemesis, whoever she was.

"And I hope you'll be saying the same to me tomorrow."

"Me too," Blair said. "It'll be useful to know someone on the Council."

"You'd be a trusted advisor, of course, if I do make it on," Ella decided. "And I'd take your advice in dance-planning."

"Absolutely," Blair said. "We don't want any of the parties to be lame."
