The Library; Monday [ 09/22 ]

When considering the possible things that he could do when he opened the library to keep himself from getting bored, Cal considered three different things. The first was the obligatory studying for school. The second consisted of studying for the play. The third, which would be more time consuming and therefor what he would likely pursue, was to track down some titles he remembered from Dr. Luce's office, especially vivid in his head after telling Amber about him on Friday, and see if they existed in the library.

However, once he did, in fact, open, and saw the residual results of all that research done over the weekend because of that island, Cal realized that cleaning up after the fact was going to keep him plenty busy enough.

Sitting at the desk and organizing all the books and other things looked into over the weekend wasn't so bad. Especially since Cal had a lot of coffee (okay, well, some coffee with his sugar and cream) to keep him going through it.

Cal flirted, albeit briefly, with the idea of forgetting the organization of the books all together and simply making towers and buildings with them.

Into the shelves Cal went to...well...shelve books.

While the library is only open to the librarian and other aides, Cal brought a sandwich with him today, so he was still there.

Back into the shelves for Cal, where he worked on tracking down some of the titles. It just seemed a good thing to know if your library carried titles like Erotosexual Pair Bonding, Ritualized Homosexuality: Three Field Studies, and Hap-Penis: Surgical Techniques in Female-to-Male Sex Reassignment.

The fact that the library also had that outdated Genetics and Heredity with him in it was enough to convince Cal that his time was much better spent sitting back at the desk and staring at the ceiling.

*glares at calendar*

Also, SP IS LOVE, OMG.

Amber toyed with the idea of going to the library all day, this would be why she didn't stroll in until fifth period where she was sure to find Cal more or less getting ready to leave.

She smiled, a small smile, when she saw him. "Hey, Cal."

"I was just resting my eyes!" Cal sputtered slightly as he jolted out of a trance that staring at the wall had put him in, jolting up, aware, ready...

And then he saw who it was, turned a little pink, and grinned. "Oh, hey, Amber."

Amber giggled. "I wasn't going to ask, sweetheart," she said, her eyes bright. "A library always manages to affect me the same way."

"It's not so bad for the first, you know, gazillion hours," Cal shrugged, leaning forward on the desk with his chin cradled in his palm as he looked up over at Amber, "but that last gazillion and oneth hour is a killer..."

"I imagine," she said, still smiling, though she did glance around with arched brows. "You know, I think I've been in here maybe twice since I've lived here? I suck."

"There's a whole section of smutty romance down that way, too," Cal said, pointing over to the right somewhere, and doing his best to maintain the most innocent of expressions.

"Seriously? Cool..." Amber commented as she glanced down that way. "Uh. But you know, I think I might be reconsidering the whole smutty novel industry. Once you've read one? You've basically read them all. I'm getting tired of pirates and kilts and the secretary hiding under the managers office desk." Reno's magazines just had to go back.

Cal had to arch an eyebrow at that last one. "Secretary under the manager's office desk?" he asked. "I don't think I remember you mentioning that one before..."

And, hey, he had a desk right now...

Cal shook his head slightly. Bad thoughts, Stephanides, bad!

"Oh, it was a new one," she waved her hand dismissively with an air of nonchalance. "Really, it was kind of boring and... " Actually, it had been rather exciting.

"You like working in here, Cal?"

Yeah, Cal wasn't going to believe for a second that it would have been boring, but he'd let Amber have that one, if only to prevent his thoughts from dwelling below the front desk. He gave her a faint smile. "I do," he said. "It's a lot quieter than the diner and I don't leave smelling like burgers. A little boring, but there's never a shortage of anything to read, and that's all I do at the diner, anyway, sit and read when there aren't customers."

"What's your current read?" she asked, curious.

Cal shrugged. "I've been working through some classics. Melville. That book about a whale? God, that's boring, but, you know, it's one of those things you try to get through, anyway, just to say you have."

Then he took a moment, glancing around although he knew they were alone, and lowered his voice, leaning slightly forward and shifting in the chair. "I also went and checked to see if we had some of those books from Dr. Luce's office here, you know, the ones I mentioned? Talking about it reminded me and, yup, sure enough, they do..."

"Yah, I never read that book. I kind of don't plan on it either. It's too damn long," she replied with a little nod of her head.

Oh, but this was interesting, however. "Will you show me?"

Hmm. So this was the library. And where Cal worked if radio was to be believed.

Walking in quietly, Temari looked around for him. Not in any hurry. It made her think of the record rooms back home. Less scrolls, though...

A little red-faced from his successful ventures into the studies that plagued his past, Cal started to head back to the desk and, not hearing Temari, nearly turned a corner right into her.

"Oh." He blinked. "Fanbutt."

Cal blanhed slightly at the request. "You...really?"

"Sparkles," She replied, still looking around the library.

"Yes... unless you don't want me to see these books?"
