Home Economics [Tuesday, Sept 16]

"The last time," Lulu began her lecture, to her assembled students, "that I taught a cooking class, last January, one of my first lessons was about breakfast foods. I'd like to do the same today.

"In terms of nutrition," she continued, "breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It tells your metabolism what kind of levels of food to expect during the course of the day -- a larger breakfast will tell your metabolism to work a little harder, for example. If you're trying to lose weight, then, a larger breakfast followed by smaller meals later in the day is key.

"One of the most basic breakfast foods is cold cereal -- generally, in this world at least, you buy it boxed, and simply add milk, potentially some form of sweetener, occasionally sliced fruit such as berries or bananas, or even eat it as is, straight from the box. Unfortunately for you all, you're not getting away with that today. If you'd like, you can attempt to make your own, but that's not required for today's class.

"One of the staples of breakfast -- although, indeed, it is a great food for any time, including snacks -- is the scrambled egg." Lulu demonstrated proper whisking behaviour, then took her students through the process of cooking the eggs so that they'd be able to recognise when their own were finished.

"Breakfast wouldn't be complete without bacon and toast," Lulu continued. "I will add that I added the toast 'recipe' today," and you could hear the airquotes, "because it amused me greatly -- but do try to follow it as best you can. It is helpful, for all that it seems to be frivolous.

"Your assignment today is to make a complete breakfast -- cereal, eggs, bacon, and toast. If you prefer not to make the homemade cereal, you may used boxed cereal, but everything else requires preparation.

"All of the recipes you need are at your stations. Pair up and cook away! Everything you need is available either in your stations, except for ingredients if you wish to make the cereal, or if you wish to make a variation on the scrambled eggs; for those, you can find the moddable ingredients here at the front of the room."

Lulu smiled. "As a drink, I recommend apple or orange juice, as they will help round out the meal. Coffee and hot chocolate, however, are also provided. You can find the drinks at the front of the room as well." She paused. "Feel free to drink them during the class as well."

[OCD is up! in a few Everything after the lj-cut taken and slightly modified from this lecture, both because it's an easier way to retread the class, and also because I slept in LIEKWHOA. ^^;; ]

Hoshi had a smirk on her face, wondering if she could get away with preparing a Japanese breakfast (http://www.howtodothings.com/uncategorized/a1658-how-to-make-japanese-breakfast.html) instead.

Chris chuckled and glanced in his girlfriend's direction several times during the lecture.

Summer glanced back. She may have been pouting slightly.

So do I get breakfast in bed tomorrow?

Chris orbed the note to Summer's desk, grateful that there was enough room between them that she couldn't easily smack him.

Summer scribbled something on the note then tossed it at Chris, quite possibly aiming for his head.

How about I make coffee for you instead?

She totally got his head and he smirked.

That's not part of today's lesson.

I'm practically an expert at this, anyway.

Well, she had taken that cooking class before.

So, tomorrow, I make the coffee and you make the breakfast?
absolutesnark: (Buh?)

You would actually trust me to cook?

Sure. It's not that hard. And I can always make Wyatt orb out to heal me if you give me food poisoning.

He gave her an innocent grin before orbing this note.

Summer scowled when she read that note.

Ha ha....We'll see.

Summer smiled.

Okay, no death. But only because you're going to bring me back caffeinated goodness.

Chris smiled over at her and then decided to actually pay attention to the rest of the lecture.

Seeing that Amber cooked a big breakfast yesterday morning, she thought she could handle this.

Chris looked for a partner.

If Francine looked indecisive while looking about for a partner, it was only because she couldn't decide what she wanted to start cooking. 'Cause seriously, who doesn't eat all of that for breakfast?

Also, I feel I should point out that I can no longer read the phrase "My Little Pony" without picturing it being said by the Middleman.

THAT IS AS IT SHOULD BE.
