Basics of Alchemy - Third Class - Period Five - Monday, 9/15

As the students started coming through the door, Abby Irene stood from her desk and started sorting the handouts. They were far lighter than last week's had been; after all, since this was a beginner course, she was only touching briefly on the subject for a bit of context on what they'd be learning so they could get to the practical work. After all, clean hands learned very little as far as she was concerned.

"As soon as you're all settled, let's get to work, shall we?"

Hinata listened carefully, making sure to take detailed notes.

Tony took notes, with only occasional doodling in the margins.

Andrew had done quite a bit of studying on his own this past week, so some of this was review.

Harry took notes. Whether they were good notes remains to be seen.

After Abby Irene had gone on for a bit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemy_in_history), she turned to her class.

"I'd like to open things up for discussion today, mostly to deal with the question of chemistry versus alchemy: what are the advantages, disadvantages... do you think one came from the other and how closely entwined are these studies? The root goal of alchemy versus chemistry... in short, what is similar, from everything we've covered, and what is very very different?"

"I think chemistry definitely came from alchemy," Sam said. "They're very entwined and similar. But I think chemistry is for people who want to understand why something happens in an experiment, while alchemists focus more on what happens when things in the experiment are changed."

"And which one do you find to be more interesting or," she paused a moment "more important?"

Sam was here if anyone needed help or wanted to talk.

Savannah was here, ready to assist.

...sorry for all the craziness with the post. For some reason, LJ kept blanking out my text box just before sending. I have no idea why. Anyway, it SHOULD be good now.
