The Cafeteria; Lunch [ 09/09 ]

Chad was glad he followed his instincts and went down the cafeteria today to see what they had for lunch instead of making his own because it appeared to be taco day. He loved taco day. It had been, for a long time, a rather love-hate relationship, though, considering how he felt that liking taco day was like fulfilling some sort of blatant and uneducated stereotype, but...

Tacos were tasty. He couldn't help that. So Chad embraced the taco day, filled a plate up, grabbed a bottle of Tabasco, and found a seat.

[[ and now I want tacos. This is why you don't do cafeteria posts when you're hungry. Open for all your lunch neeeeds! ]]

Penelope looked up, eyes wide. "H-hi." It was such a nice, friendly offer. But how could she eat without causing others to wonder and ask questions? She would look like an idiot in front of people. It would be... horrible.

Instead of replying to that, she decided to offer instead, "I'm Penelope." And she extended her hand.

"Hurley," he said, shaking her hand. "I mean, if you don't want to, that's okay and stuff. I just thought, like... in case you didn't want to eat alone."

"It's nice to meet you, Hurley," Penelope replied. "I..." she looked over at his table, reached up to touch her scarf, and looked embarrassed. She didn't like eating alone, no, but wasn't sure how to fix it. "I... could, yes, thank you." She just will enjoy her soda with her straw. That was easily managed.

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, cool scarf," Hurley said. "Like... oh, hey, is this one of those, like, religious things? You have to keep your face covered and stuff?"

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That is the second time someone has asked her that. "Oh, no," she blushed. "Nothing like that." But that lie might have worked for her. She should have considered it sometime ago and the lie would have been easy now. Unfortunately she didn't know much about 'relgious things'.

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
That's okay, neither did Hurley.

"So, like, fashion statement. That's cool," Hurley said.

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mhm," she murmured without eye contact. She hated misinforming anyone, but it was simply something that had to be done while she was at school.

"Are you a new student, Hurley?"

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Hurley said. "Guess I kinda stick out as new, huh?"

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it's not that, it's just that I'm new myself and don't know that many people."

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ohhhh," Hurley said. "Well. Cool. So, like, you want to come over or should I go grab my tray?"

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"I.. can come over. You shouldn't have to move," she said, smiling, and got up from her table. "You sure? I wouldn't want to intrude..."

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey," Hurley said with a laugh and a smile. "I went to the trouble of coming over here, didn't I?"

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
She smiled. "True," she said, grabbing her tray to follow him. "Something about making sure, I guess."

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurley led her back to where he'd been sitting. "Makes sense," he said. "I mean, I'm still nervous about meeting people and stuff, too."

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"It can be mildly intimidating," she said, sitting down. "I have a difficult time believing in some of the things I've seen and heard about. A frog spoke to me at the picnic."

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Dude, me too," Hurley said. "Robin's kinda cool, though."

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"So it's true? He's not just a puppet?"

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I don't think so," Hurley said. "I mean... I guess he looked kinda puppet-y, but... I didn't see a puppet guy."

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nor did I. The more I think about it, I tend to believe what I saw. Hard not to," she said and slipped her straw underneath her scarf to take a drink.

"What grade are you in, Hurley?"

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, me?" Hurley said. "I'm a junior. Kinda, like... yeah. You?"

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
"A junior too, but I admit, this is my first experience being in school."

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh wow," Hurley said. "Homeschooled, huh? That's cool."

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Penelope nodded, grinned, glad that he got it. It might not have been cool for her but she was here now, learning the social aspects as well as she could. "What about you? Where are you from?"

[identity profile] likes-chicken.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"Santa Monica," Hurley said. "That's, like, California, if you don't know. But it's kinda, like... 14 years ago, back home."

[identity profile] bad-nose-job.livejournal.com 2008-09-09 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Over half of the people I've met here come from California. I hear that's where all the movie stars are," she said, smiling. "The timeline I am still trying to understand. I'm from England. 2008."
