Care for Magical Creatures; Monday, Period One; September 08.

As the students came into the Danger Shop, they would find it exactly as it was last week, with one big change. The desks were no longer in front of all the cushiony pillows for sitting. No, they were laying in a heap in a corner of the room, hosting a crackling and pleasant fire.

It was best not to ask.



"Good morning, my little do-gooders of the earning of great knowledge!" Minsc had his spot on the larger pillow in the front of the class, beaming excitedly as a small, golden pedestal stood in front of his folded legs. On top of that pedestal was his hamster.

"I hope you are all as excited about today as I am! Not only do I officially have two brave, intrepid, and honourable young assistants to now help me and you in our class, but today we are doing something verah special! Sir Jeffrey! Sir Jan! Stand up, so that your classmates can see who to know to go to in case they need assistance and I am unable to assist them!"

No, he didn't seem to realize that one of his TAs didn't exactly need to stand up to draw attention to himself.

And Jan was pretty noticeable on his own, as well.

"Thank you, gentlemen. I am sure you all remember Boo," he opened his hands to the pedestal in front of him, "my dearest and bravest companion in the entire world...err, worlds, I suppose! He is a giant miniature space hamster, one of the wisest creatures you will ever encounter. In fact, most people? Do not ever even encounter them. They are verah rare! And you have one right here, in front of you! Isn't that nice?"

"Each of you," Minsc said, "will take some time to come and talk to Boo. Remember, he is a great and wise being, of a great magical magnitude." No. He wasn't. "Do not waste this chance. That is one of the greatest lessons to learn about dealing with and caring for magical creatures: they are special beings, whether they are rare or common, and one must never associate with them without keeping that deep here." He thunked his chest, his armour giving a dull sound. "In your heart! Always cherish it, and your life will be much better for it!"

"While you are waiting your turn with Boo, please take the time to care for your eggs. They will need to be kept good and warm these next few weeks, so you must make sure they have a nice comfortable bed! And I will be here if you have any questions about anything. Now go! You, first! Come and seek the knowledge of the great giant miniature space hamster, Boo!"

Boo stared for a moment at the funny looking human, blinking his small, beady black eyes. His head tilted, whiskers twitching, and then he offered to the human his nibbled on carrot stick.

"No thank you," Dor said politely. "I already ate. From what part of space are you from?"

Jan eyed the giant miniature space hamster curiously. "Hello," he said to it. "Do you know the secret of making fire?"

With a slight squeak, Boo stood up a little straighter on his hind legs. One of his paws precariously pushed at the air and his nose twitched, trying to get a better smell of the unicorn.

Blinking his tiny black eyes at the human girl, Boo just continued munching on his carrot. Loudly and with his mouth open because it was a large carrot for such a little hamster, he had to take really big bites!

Talking to a hamster. Right. This was only slightly weird, really.

"Uh, hi Boo."

Squeaking slightly, Boo moved a paw through the air in a gesture that might be construed as a wave.

He was only batting at some mote of dust, but it might easily be mistaken for a wave.

"So, who's going to win the Superbowl this year?"

Boo found all this talking to people to be incredibly exhausting. He gave the human a doleful look with his shiny black eyes, nose twitching at him.

"What do you think of this world so far?" Ella asked the creature, with a respectful half-curtsy.

The fact that Boo's response seemed to align with Ella's question was mere coincidence. The hamster was just tired from all these talking humans, so he laid down on the pedestal, tucking his front paws under his chin and letting out a breath that sounded a lot like a sigh.

The carrot, it would seem, was pretty darn good, considering that Boo kept munching away at it, looking over (and uuup) at the human boy blankly.

With a feverishly twitching nose, Boo seemed to have reached the end of his carrot by the time the frog thing came around to talk to him, so he promptly shoved it into his mouth, bulging out his cheeks as he finished chewing it and stared at him.

This was the part where she started to feel sort of dumb. "Hello," she greeted the giant miniature space hamster. "Er, how do you like Earth?"

His shiny black eyes wide, Boo stared at the human girl for a moment before he moved to the side of the pedestal and promptly started chewing on the edge.

"Hi Boo!" Sora grinned and leaned his face in close to the weetiny gigantic space hampster. "Looks like you're enjoying that carrot!"

That was giant miniature, thank you. Not that it mattered to Boo and not that he could even understand the human boy with the really funny hair, but it certainly was a good carrot. That much continued to be clear with how he just stared at Sora and continued munching away.
