Care for Magical Creatures; Monday, Period One; September 08.

As the students came into the Danger Shop, they would find it exactly as it was last week, with one big change. The desks were no longer in front of all the cushiony pillows for sitting. No, they were laying in a heap in a corner of the room, hosting a crackling and pleasant fire.

It was best not to ask.

"Good morning, my little do-gooders of the earning of great knowledge!" Minsc had his spot on the larger pillow in the front of the class, beaming excitedly as a small, golden pedestal stood in front of his folded legs. On top of that pedestal was his hamster.

"I hope you are all as excited about today as I am! Not only do I officially have two brave, intrepid, and honourable young assistants to now help me and you in our class, but today we are doing something verah special! Sir Jeffrey! Sir Jan! Stand up, so that your classmates can see who to know to go to in case they need assistance and I am unable to assist them!"

No, he didn't seem to realize that one of his TAs didn't exactly need to stand up to draw attention to himself.

And Jan was pretty noticeable on his own, as well.

"Thank you, gentlemen. I am sure you all remember Boo," he opened his hands to the pedestal in front of him, "my dearest and bravest companion in the entire world...err, worlds, I suppose! He is a giant miniature space hamster, one of the wisest creatures you will ever encounter. In fact, most people? Do not ever even encounter them. They are verah rare! And you have one right here, in front of you! Isn't that nice?"

"Each of you," Minsc said, "will take some time to come and talk to Boo. Remember, he is a great and wise being, of a great magical magnitude." No. He wasn't. "Do not waste this chance. That is one of the greatest lessons to learn about dealing with and caring for magical creatures: they are special beings, whether they are rare or common, and one must never associate with them without keeping that deep here." He thunked his chest, his armour giving a dull sound. "In your heart! Always cherish it, and your life will be much better for it!"

"While you are waiting your turn with Boo, please take the time to care for your eggs. They will need to be kept good and warm these next few weeks, so you must make sure they have a nice comfortable bed! And I will be here if you have any questions about anything. Now go! You, first! Come and seek the knowledge of the great giant miniature space hamster, Boo!"

Jo started building up the nest around her egg, heaping the straw into a rough basket-shape.

Moving incredibly carefully, Jan turned his egg with the tip of his horn, trying to get it settled more securely. Once that was done, he picked up mouthfuls of straw, packing it gently around his egg.

Look, if he ate any of it, it was only a little bit that no one would miss.

Harry approached the eggs warily, again. Sure, nothing had gone wrong last week with all the technology, but this was an entirely different week. Last week could have been a weird fluke.

Everything seemed to go okay though, even though it took what seemed like forever to finish adding nice warm stuff to the nest. That trough must have been bigger than it looked.

Chris took care of his egg, wondering what sort of creature would hatch from it.

Ella tucked a tiny blanket made from a scrap of felt around her egg, and spent some time talking to it and telling it what a good egg it was.

It wasn't silly if it would work!

Robin was carrying a pillow to his egg for it's bed. It was a pillow he couldn't see around. He'd scouted his route before setting off, but still, he almost bumped into Ella.

"Careful!" Ella squeaked. "We could lose both our eggs."

She seemed unfazed to be talking to a small, felt frog. It was no odder, after all, than an Elf or Gnome.

"Oops!" Robin changed his path. "Sorry!" He'd have waved to her if he had a hand free. "Your egg is very pretty."

Sam shaped the straw around his egg to try to give it as solid of a place to rest as he could.

Robin took great care in making sure his egg was comfortable. He wondered if he should bring some music for it next time.

Molly made a little cotton and straw bed for her egg, making sure to turn it and handle it gently.

There may have been humming under her breath, but she wouldn't mention it was a lullabye if no one else did.

Sora made sure that his egg wasn't in danger of falling over and crashing to the floor or getting too cold and not hatching. He'd heard somewhere that could be a problem for eggs.
