Library [Saturday]

It was eerily and unexplainably cold when Mac came in to open the library for her shift.

She can probably be found sitting behind the desk clinging to a large mug of hot coffee that was taking the edge off. For all that she liked her job, she also preferred it a bit warmer.

There's a big stack of library card forms there on the desk again for any of the new kids that might still need one.

Huddled behind the desk as she pokes at her laptop, but certainly around.

It's open for library aides and the librarian. Mac has salad and cookies and ... might be open to sharing.

In the interest of keeping warm, she's reshelving the recent returns.

"Bit chilly in here today, isn't it?" Indy asked as he entered the library with an extra cup of coffee from the perk. "Are you a coffee fan?"

Mac nodded from over her laptop. "Godd, bad and anything in between," she replied. "Especially when it's like this."

Sometime in the afternoon, Tosh showed up at the library just as she said she would.

"Hello, Mac," she greeted with a little wave.

"It's from that place in town," Indy replied as he placed the cup on the counter. "Which is probably the best stuff I've had in a long time."

"Tosh, hey." Mac hopped down from a set of steps.

"Uh, welcome to fandom high library, sorry about the cold."

"Always a good choice," Mac told him with a polite smile. "Thank you."

She reached forward to put her hands around the cup. ""Your first week here gone well?"

"That's all right," Tosh replied. "I think I can handle the cold. How are you today?"

"It was-"

Indy paused for a moment before shrugging and grinning. "Strange. Thought I believe that's normal around here."

Mac grinned back at him. "Pretty much," she said. "But you don't seem too freaked by it. So I think you'll do great."

"Pretty good," Mac replied as she made her way over. She smiled at Tosh. "Not getting invaded by those skunks automatically added something to my day."

"No skunks. Always a plus," Tosh agreed.

"Oddly enough, only just beginning to learn that," Mac said, gesturing towards the front desk with a nod.

"You want coffee?" she offered. "I keep my stash well stocked if I'm here all day."

"Coffee would be lovely," Tosh smiled. "And since I'm here to learn more about current technology, I might as well get myself a library card."

Mac snagged a form from the desk as she went around the back, and handed it along with a pen to Tosh for her to fill in.

"Just fill that lot in, and I can sort one out for you," she said, immediately starting on a drink for Tosh. "I swear they must have all that on record, but the seem to like making sure to check that you remember who you are too."

"I see that hasn't changed," Tosh joked as she started filling out the form.

Mac snickered. "Definitely not," she confirmed as she pushed a mug across the desk.

"I think 'people are dumb' is pretty much the only common factor between all times and universes."

"It's good to know that's one thing that we can all agree on," Tosh chuckled, taking the mug.

"I brought along a spare laptop," Mac said, pulling it up from behind the desk. "It's a bit older, but my... uh, friend, put this thing on my new one where it alarms whenever anyone but me touches it."

She gestured towards the librarian offices. "Not sure that'd be approved of."

"Well you'd be surprised what a good stiff drink will do for you every night."

...

"Not that I'd recommend that for minors."

"Oh, guess that goes against the no loud noises rule," Tosh said, glancing at the laptop. "This is not quite as bulky as the ones I am used to."

Mac smirked as he amended himself. "Noted," she said with a nod. "I'll save that for a couple of years time."

Mac nodded as she grinned at Tosh.

"Surprising how much can change in a decade or so." She flipped it open and on. "You a programmer, or a gamer, or... something else?"

"Be sure you do," Indy replied.with a small smirk. "Is it always this cold in here or did someone mess with the thermostat?"

"Oh, everything," Tosh said. Yes, she was right up there with the geekiest of computer geeks. "Sometimes I even tinker with computer parts and electronics."

Mac grinned. Kindred spirit. There was just one last test...

"Mac or Linux?" No geek in their right mind used Windows, so she didn't even put it on the list.

"Mac is reliable, but I am intrigued by Linux. Of course, it's new back in 1992," Tosh replied. "Linux version 0.95 was just released. I would guess it is better now?"

Mac shrugged. "Some people think so," she allowed. Okay, it wasn't her taste, but it worked. "I just like what I know. I'm a bit stuck in my ways."

"As I said, Mac is always reliable," Tosh said. "Which is why I prefer it."

Mac grinned smugly. "Well, thank you," she teased, picking up her mug of coffee.

"You're quite welcome," Tosh chuckled.

"If you want to borrow that for a little while, you can," Mac told her. "Not like I use it anymore. So long as I get it back eventually."

"I know where you live," she added with a little smile. "Or, can look it up, at least."

"That's very generous of you," Tosh said, glancing at the computer screen. "I promise no harm will come to it. I assure you, though, it likely won't be long before I get my hands on one of my own."
