Survival Skills [Wednesday, Period Four]

As the class entered the classroom, they would have found Bond leaning against the front desk.

"Good afternoon class," he began after they had all arrived. "For those of you who haven't taken a class with me before, my name is Bond, you may address me as Professor Bond, or sir."

"This class is Survival Skills," Bond continued. "And really, the name should be self-explanatory, in this class you will be learning about a number of skills that over the years I have to be extremely beneficial to my continued survival. Since I have, on occasion, led an interesting life, some of these may seem slightly out of the ordinary, but that doesn't diminish their value any."

"Now, for our first lesson, we'll keep things simple, introduce yourself to the rest of the class and tell us your name, year, why you're taking the class, one survival skill you feel you have, and one that you think might be useful to learn."

"Oh, one more thing," Bond said, running his finger down the class list. "If Mr Darklighter is here, could he please see me after class."

"Gavin Darklighter. I'm a senior and I'm taking this class because I know it'll be helpful for when I go back home," he said. "One survival skill I have is the ability to endure long campaigns without too much exhaustion on my part. One that might be useful is stealth. Better stealth."

"The ability to use stealth correctly is indeed a good skill to learn," Bond said, obviously pleased at that choice. "As is endurance, though I doubt we'll be having too many forced marches in this class."

Note that he didn't say 'any'.

"My name's Hugo Reyes, but everyone calls me Hurley. I'm, like, a junior? The class seemed good, since I wanted to be able to, you know... survive things?" Hurley's face scrunched, he knew that didn't sound great. "I'm kinda spry, even though I'm big, so that's kind of a skill, right? As for learnin' stuff, well... I don't know. That's kind of why I signed up."

Bond nodded. "We can work with spry. After all, dodging is a highly underrated skill."

"I'm Amber Atkins. I'm a senior and in taking this class I'm hoping that it will teach me how to take care of myself in case I'm ever on the run. I need to be able to survive against this... there is a particular woman who would like to see me dead. Call her crazy if you want, but I thought this class would be beneficial. Also? I don't really have any skills other than throwing a good punch."

"You should find the next few weeks beneficial then, Miss Atkins," Bond replied. "Since we'll be starting with self-defence."

"I'm called Andros," Andros said, "I'm a sophomore. I'm taking this class because it will be important for me to be able to use survival skills back home. One survival skill I do have is self defense,"

"Good to have you in the class again," Bond said. "Self-defence is always good place to start."

"My name is Helen Haras-Uquara. I am a sophomore and I'm taking this class because I think the skills could have helped me in the past and may well help me in the present. I succesfully survived almost two years Walking the Bounds in different worlds, which required a number of different survival skills."

"Hello," Turtle gave the class a small smile as she introduced herself, "my name is Turtle Wexler and I'm a junior. I'm taking this class because I've learned, especially attending this school, that it's important to always be prepared for anything, especially something dangerous and especially when you're a relatively average girl like myself without superpowers. I think that, if anything, one survival skill that I have is a permanent weapon; even before Fandom opened my eyes to frequent danger, I've always had one heck of a kick for defense. One skill I would like to learn..."

She paused her little speech, thoughtfully frowning. "Well, I'm not really sure. I think I could stand to really learn how to be more calm and cool and collected in a bad situation, though, which probably helps with survival a lot."

"A well placed kick can indeed do wonders," Bond agreed. "As does keeping your head under pressure."

"I'm Ender Wiggin," Ender said. He sat at the back of the class, paying careful attention. "I'm a freshman. I'm looking to learn a few things that might be useful outside of a school." It was a delicate way of putting it, for certain. "I know how to feed, dress, and defend myself." Careful.

"You're already ahead of many of your contemporaries then," Bond said wryly. "It usually takes until university for young men to grasp the first two."

"My name's Ronan Nolan," he began, "and I'm a senior. I chose this class because I'll likely be spending some time in unfamiliar terrain, once I graduate -- I'm a wizard, and past experience with errantry means I'll likely be going off-world. There's no telling what I might encounter, if I do." He smiled a little. "One of the best survival skills I already have is because I'm a wizard: I can talk with anything." Ronan paused, considering a moment. "I suppose what I'd most like to learn is how to identify plants that are safe to eat, and if there's any way to test that in the field."

Bond nodded before replying. "We'll be covering wilderness survival later in the semester, so hopefully that will be so some help."

"My name is Gwynn Hood and I'm a junior. I'm taking this class because I am always willing to learn new ways to survive those that would like to see me harmed back in my own world."

"Well, hopefully this class will be helpful to you then," Bond replied.

"My name is Triela. I'm here because Hilshire thought there was something I could learn here... apparently," she rolled her eyes as she said it. "My main survival skill is killing people before they can kill me." She cocked her head, "I find that works pretty well for most situations, really."

"Most situations, yes," Bond bit his lower lip to keep from smiling. "It does have a certain permanence to it though. Which can be...undesirable."

"Liir Thropp," he said with a bow of his head to the professor.

"Sophmore. I'm taking the class because knowing how to survive is always useful.

"I suppose I'm very good at doing things without using machinery, which could be useful if you're away from it all. So perhaps just 'good at doing things without assistance'.

"And I can't think of anything it might be helpful to learn. Perhaps that's why I need this class."

"I'm Dean Winchester and I'm a senior," Dean said. "The family business is demon hunting and you never really know what you're going to have to know how to do so new skills are always a plus. Probably one of the more unusual survival skills I have for anyone other than a hunter is I know how to contain and exorcise a demon. If you're looking for something more mundane, I can probably strip and clean practically any gun you throw at me and I'm a pretty good shot with them too.

"As for what I want to learn..." Dean shrugged. "Like I said, you never know what you might need so I'm open to whatever's on offer."

"I a-am Hinata," she said quietly. "I am a sophomore, a-and I am t-taking this c-class because I d-do not wish to f-forget my l-lessons while here. I h-have been trained to s-survive in m-many situations, and I w-would like to b-be more confident in a b-bad situation."

"I'm Adam Park and I'm a senior. I signed up for this class because I could always stand to learn more survival skills, especially with what's going on back home," he explained. Yeah, Adam would take everything he could get when going up against the Machine Empire.

"One survival skill I have is being able to handle myself in a fight. I've been trained in martial arts since I was little," Adam admitted. He had pretty good endurance. "As for the survival skill I'd like to learn? I'm honestly open to suggestions, really."
