The start of a new school year was always fun, and Lily was completely excited to have a new class. And one that had desks and she actually got to teach stuff to.

"Hi, everyone," she greeted them. "Welcome to Hands-On Art. In this class we're going to be learning not much about the history of art, though we will get into that a little, but it's more of a how-to, where you'll get to create your own works and figure out what mediums and styles work for you. And if it's not something you're serious about, sticking a lot of colors on a canvas can be a lot of fun. Or even cathartic.

"We'll get into that next week, though. Today's your token introductions class, nice and easy for the first week. You can just stand up, tell us your name and what year you're in, and why you're taking this class. And then we have the world's easiest art project, which is stick figures," Lily said, handing out sheets of paper and pencils to everyone. "I know, it sounds amazingly easy, but believe me, I've seen people get them wrong. Get as creative as you want. Give them a house, a little stick dog, whatever you want. I even have some markers up here if you want to add color. And extra paper if you're really ambitious and want a stick city or something. ...Okay, extra credit to anyone who can draw a stick city.

"And I am still looking for a TA. If anyone's interested, see me after class."

Peter gave a nod of hi to Peyton.

Peyton smiled at him.

"How's it going?" Peter asked.

"So far, so good," she assured him. "I met the guy who owns the cool car yesterday and I got a job at the music store."

"Which cool car?" Peter asked. Though his assumption was that she meant Dean.

"Black '67 Impala," Peyton said. "It's gorgeous. And I never find other people my age who have the older cars. Mine's a '63 Mercury Comet convertible."

"Definitely Dean," Peter said, amused that he'd guessed. "His brother Sam's my best friend. They're good guys."

"Dean, yeah, and I didn't meet Sam, but Dean pointed him out."

She smiled at Peter. "He seemed like a good guy, but it's nice to know you agree."

"They both are," Peter said. "I can vouch for 'em. I'm surprised Dean let you out of his sight after finding you you're a classic car fan."

She laughed. "He seemed happier that I liked his baby than interested in mine."

"Still, you're a cute girl who's interested in cars," Peter said. "I'm surprised he didn't explode from all the flirting."

She blushed. "Yeah, well... there might have been a little flirting. But I'm not sure I'm ready for any of that stuff right now."

Peter smiled. "Don't worry about it. Dean's a flirter. He won't hold you to anything."

"Safe flirting," Peyton said thoughtfully. "I like that concept."

"It helps keep the emo away," Peter agreed.

"Oh trust me," Peyton said with feeling, "I can definitely use a little of that!"

"I can imagine," Peter said. "How's it going, if you don't mind my asking?"

She shrugged. "I don't know. Everything's kind of up in the air."

"At least school is a distraction?" Peter offered.

She nodded. "Yeah, I really think being here is going to be good for me. I needed to get away."

"I'm glad you think so," Peter said. "I admit to liking it here too."

"Yeah, that seems to be the consensus," she agreed. "Everyone seems to like it here."

"You won't lack for friends here, that's for sure," Peter said.

"What?" she said drily. "You can already tell that based on my sparkling personalit?"

But she was really pleased that he felt that way and it probably showed.

"I was going to say pleasant and welcoming but yours works too," Peter said.
