"Hello and welcome to the Open Mic Student Council Quorum. This is going to be a cross between a Crossfire event, a debate, and a party. We want you to get to know your Student Council candidates - all of them - better. A lot better. To that purpose, we've invited all of them here tonight. However, as this was not a mandatory event, we don't have a roster yet of who will show up. Feel free to write your questions in, we'll make sure they all get them whether they show tonight or not.

Here's how tonight is going to work:

1) Each Student Council Candidate will be asked 5 questions from the quorum directors (that's us), and they will have 1 minute to answer the question to the best of their ability. We'll be keeping score and awarding points for how accurately each question is answered, as well as style and delivery. At the end of the night, the representative with the most points will win a prize.

2) When the 5 questions have been answered, the floor will be opened to the audience for the Crossfire section - to ask the Candidates anything they want. HOWEVER, the questions must be on topic. Questions phrased with vulgar or offensive language, or questions about personal lifestyle choices or habits will be striken - and the asker will be asked to leave. So phrase your questions carefully. We're here to learn things and have fun.

3) The Candidates may ask each other questions in the Crossfire section. Feel free to go head to head over your issues. Well, verbally, anyway.

4) I mentioned fun, and to that effect, we have Buzzword Bingo going. Each of you was handed a set of Buzzword Bingo Cards and a pencil as you entered. Here's how it works: Each card has the name of a Candidate on it, and many, many buzzwords pulled directly from the debate last night. When you note any Candidate using a buzzword in any of their answers, tick it off on their Bingo Card. The first player to declare a Bingo wins a doorprize. The first player to get Bingos on more than five cards gets the grand prize.

The Prizes:
Single Card Bingo: First 12 people will each win 1lb boxes of chocolates from Wonka's Sweet Shop
Two Card Bingo: First person to get one wins a $15 gift certificate to Deb's Diner and Retro Store
Three Card Bingo: First person to get one wins a $30 gift certificate to Deb's Diner and Retro Store
Four Card Bingo: First person to get one wins a $50 gift certificate to The Emporium
Grand Prize: a $100 gift certificate to Red's Tattoos

The "(Candidate name) Crossfire" section will be open to any IC comments. Please direct your questions to the Candidates in their threads.

Please keep all OOC comments in the "OOC" thread" - we ask because we'll be cutting and pasting from the other threads as the night goes on.

This post will remain the same - a secondary post will be linked for people who want to catch up without scanning a billion comments.

Wednesday glances at the slip. "I would be willing to expend the utmost effort to unravel the various minutiae of the academic requirements in order to fulfill my duties. Intrigue is as life's blood and I would regard the challenge itself as a triumph." It is to be noted that there is a somewhat disturbing light in her eye.

Why should the student body vote for someone who didn't care enough to sign up in a timely fashion for this position in the first place?

Perhaps because they would prefer to vote for someone who is willing to put in the extra work to run as a write-in, including showing up to this completely voluntary debate and opening themselves to questioning. I realize that this is a thankless job and one that is mostly invisible to the student body at large, but it needs to be done and I would be pleased to take care of these matters for my fellow students.

"Wednesday," Angelus asked, with a tone of geniune curiosity, "I don't understand your reply to the third question. Are you suggesting that any student who misbehaves should face a crapshoot as to what their punishment will be?"

"No." Wednesday shook her head, offering him a thoughtful look. "I'm saying that with the varied and somewhat unpredictable behavior of the students, it isn't unreasonable for them to face varied and unpredictable punishments. Trying to suit punishment to crime for each student would require more time and effort than practical. I did not say it was a fair system, but it is the most likely to offer a punishment to literally fit the crime."

"Ms. Addams, please understand that I am not asking about your love life. What is the one thing, that you as a person, not as a politician, most want? What steps are you taking to achieve that end?"

"My love life is an unsuitable topic for debate in any case." Wednesday frowned at the question. "I don't think of myself as a politian either, although my Father would probably approve."

After a brief pause, she offered, "What I want most is to live up to the expectations of my family and to achieve the same greatness as my ancestors. Their many historical and... memorable achievements inspire me. The steps that I'm taking toward this include furthering my education and learning more about the world at large. ~~And refurbishing Aunt Esmeralda's private dungeon.~~"

She smiled slowly, almost showing teeth. "But I'm a teenager. All this could change before breakfast tomorrow."

Beka smiles, equally slowly and while it is not an unpleasant smile, it is a knowing one. "With respect, I hope your dedication to the position for which you are running won't change so quickly."

She considers a moment, then continues. Her tone is genuinely curious and concerned, in the manner of someone who has not yet decided who is best fit for this position and whether she herself will continue to run. "There's something that's been bothering me. We've heard a lot from you about the position, what it ~~entrails~~ entails, how much work it will be, and your qualifications for it. What I haven't heard is why you care. Do you?"

"Of course I do." Wednesday frowned slightly. "I'm not as at home with public speaking and social gatherings as most of my fellow students, and my upbringing did not encourage a great deal of spontaneous emotional expression ~~even the violent sort is sort of pre-meditated~~. I am far more at home with action than words."

Thank you. "It's unfortunate that campaigning has to take place in words. They can be so inaccurate. So inadequate." Beka's eyes gleamed as she walked away from the table that served as a stage.
