"Hello and welcome to the Open Mic Student Council Quorum. This is going to be a cross between a Crossfire event, a debate, and a party. We want you to get to know your Student Council candidates - all of them - better. A lot better. To that purpose, we've invited all of them here tonight. However, as this was not a mandatory event, we don't have a roster yet of who will show up. Feel free to write your questions in, we'll make sure they all get them whether they show tonight or not.

Here's how tonight is going to work:

1) Each Student Council Candidate will be asked 5 questions from the quorum directors (that's us), and they will have 1 minute to answer the question to the best of their ability. We'll be keeping score and awarding points for how accurately each question is answered, as well as style and delivery. At the end of the night, the representative with the most points will win a prize.

2) When the 5 questions have been answered, the floor will be opened to the audience for the Crossfire section - to ask the Candidates anything they want. HOWEVER, the questions must be on topic. Questions phrased with vulgar or offensive language, or questions about personal lifestyle choices or habits will be striken - and the asker will be asked to leave. So phrase your questions carefully. We're here to learn things and have fun.

3) The Candidates may ask each other questions in the Crossfire section. Feel free to go head to head over your issues. Well, verbally, anyway.

4) I mentioned fun, and to that effect, we have Buzzword Bingo going. Each of you was handed a set of Buzzword Bingo Cards and a pencil as you entered. Here's how it works: Each card has the name of a Candidate on it, and many, many buzzwords pulled directly from the debate last night. When you note any Candidate using a buzzword in any of their answers, tick it off on their Bingo Card. The first player to declare a Bingo wins a doorprize. The first player to get Bingos on more than five cards gets the grand prize.

The Prizes:
Single Card Bingo: First 12 people will each win 1lb boxes of chocolates from Wonka's Sweet Shop
Two Card Bingo: First person to get one wins a $15 gift certificate to Deb's Diner and Retro Store
Three Card Bingo: First person to get one wins a $30 gift certificate to Deb's Diner and Retro Store
Four Card Bingo: First person to get one wins a $50 gift certificate to The Emporium
Grand Prize: a $100 gift certificate to Red's Tattoos

Please keep all OOC comments in the "OOC" thread" - we ask because we'll be cutting and pasting from the other threads as the night goes on.

"My... record? I assume you are referring to my single detention. I believe that having spent some time on the wrong side of the administration, I'm more able to see the student's point of view. I am not a puppet for the higher-ups, nor am I merely a shill for the student populace. With information from all sides of the issue, I am able to make principled decisions. Thank you for your question."

"Sir, you may trust me. As President, I will ensure that I am here as long as the student body is, no more and no less."

"6," Angelus asked, "why should the student body trust the important positions of Student Council, especially that of president, to a group of people who grabbed attention by telling us all that, as far as rationality and sanity goes, they were a dog and a hat short of a Monopoly game?

"If you cannot understand the concept of irony, sir, then I cannot explain it to you."

"Oh gosh," Angelus said. "I'm sorry. Didn't mean to bug you. Though, hey, if you've got a little time in your busy schedule, do you think you can explain how somebody who defines the job of president as 'the liaison between the administration and the students' who is 'the voice and face of his peers to the outside world' thinks it's a wise idea to cop 'tude that unless you find his jokes funny you're not worthy of his efforts?"

"I've generally found the student body to have a delightful and winsome sense of humor. I don't see this as an issue."

"Mr. Six, I've never met you. To the best of my knowledge, you remain closely closeted. How do you plan to bridge the gap between yourself and your fellow students to lead them effectively if you prefer not to speak to them?"

"As far as my 'closeted' nature, it is my contention that it makes me the best candidate so far. I am unsullied by previous influences that would damage my ability to reason and do what is best for the student body. I have, however, observed. I know what the students want and I will provide it in spades. They have my assurance."

"With respect, I'd prefer demonstration to assurances. Can you please elaborate on what you think your fellow students want?"

"The students, from all appearances, want to know firmly and without a doubt where they stand. What liberties they have, what rights they carry. What the limits are and where they can carry them. The students want their freedoms and they want them on paper. I will provide that."

He pauses. "I will also provide lowered vending machine prices. Seventy-five cents for a Hershey's bar is fiscal tyranny."

"I fully support this platform. Especially the vending machines. It's not like we have access to a neverending supply of cash."

"Mr. 6, please understand that I am not asking about your love life. What is the one thing, that you as a person, not as a politician, most want? What steps are you taking to achieve that?"

"I want freedom, madame. Freedom to live my life as I choose without inhibition by controlling forces that act against that liberty. That is my personal desire."

"Then you and I have that much in common. If you're elected President, how will you put that personal desire into practice as a politician?"

"By coming to terms with the administration. They hold all the cards at this juncture, and I want them held responsible for their actions. I want, in writing, unbreakable assurances of the student's rights and freedoms within the campus. Those things that are common sense can, in times of duress, quickly disappear. I will make sure that they cannot. That is my oath. That is my promise."

"Well. I can't say I disagree with your position, in the slightest. I hope you or whomever is elected has plenty of success with that."
