Karaoke For Fun And Profit #7 [Monday, Period 4, 8/18]
"Welcome to our final workshop!" said Mike, grinning as he got up on stage. "Today, we'll be covering duets, or how to get over stage fright by teaming up with your friends. Helping me out today will be a very good friend who has stage fright. Kids, give a warm welcome to Mary Connell! Mary, come on out here. Don't be shy!" When Mary still didn't emerge from the wings, Mike finally pulled her out on stage.
"Mike, I changed my mind. I don't want to do this," Mary whispered, unaware that the microphone picked up on her words.
"It's not so scary, really, and you promised," Mike gently reminded her as he handed her a second microphone. "I promise that this will be fun. You'll be fine, and I'll be here helping you the entire time. Now, why don't you tell the class what song we'll be doing?"
Mary appeared to calm down, though her hands were a little shaky. "Hello everyone. Today we're going to sing... Um, Mike? This isn't the right song," she protested as the music started to play.
"I know you'll like this one a lot more. Just go with it!" said Mike, snapping his fingers and dancing to the beat.
Mary's face was just about as red as her hair, but she managed to find her place in the song and start singing. She was a little off-key, but she managed to keep up with the lyrics.
Mike had no problems with the song, and he was clearly enjoying himself. "See, that wasn't so bad!" he said as the music ended. "Class, let's hear a round of applause for our special guest!"
Mary handed him the microphone and fled from the stage. "Okay, well, she had to get back to work," said Mike. "Anyway, if you'd like to team up with your classmates to sing a duet, go ahead! Or you can still go solo if you prefer. And remember, have fun! That's what karaoke is all about."
