Basic Auto Mechanics, session 6, Tuesday period 1

"Good morning," John greeted the class as they filed into the danger shop turned garage. "Today we're going to focus on the battery. The thing you will most likely need to do in regards to a car battery is jumpstart it. Though it doesn't hurt to know how to change your battery either." He demonstrated both procedures.

"Really, neither's that hard," he said as he stepped back and wiped his hands on a grease cloth, "as long as you pay attention to details and do things in the right order so you don't end up with sparkage." He looked around. "Your turn."

Yep, Romeo was watching, absently stroking the rabbit in his lap.

Romeo carefully set Dojima on the floor of the shop to hop around, then tried to jump the engine.

It took him two tries, but he got it.

Inara was watching the demonstration, and then she saw the bunny. She raised her eyebrows questioningly at Romeo.

Inara had no illusions about her ability to replace a battery and opted to jump start it instead.

Working slowly and carefully, she actually managed to get it the third time. Plus, she didn't blow up, so that was especially satisfying.

"Dojima," Romeo informed her in a whisper, holding the rabbit up slightly so Inara could get a better look. "She's been like so since Friday."

Dojima twitched her ears in greeting. Hi! Did she have treat?

Inara grinned back at Dojima. No, sadly, there was no treat, and she felt a bit forward reaching over to scratch her ears when she was sitting in Romeo's lap. "It's not permanent, is it?"

"Faith, I hope not," Romeo said with some alarm tinging his voice. "I asked Seely that yesterday -- Aravis is a leopard -- and he said he'd never known of anyone getting stuck."

"Have you?"

"Aravis is a---" She just shook her head. "No, but my experience is mainly in gremlin bites, not animal conversions. I do hope it's not painful."

Romeo tilted his head to get a better look at Dojima, who simply blinked. "She didn't seem to be in pain," he said hesitantly. "We were in my alcove, and I heard her trip, and when I got to her she was a rabbit. I think she's happy, at least as long as I pet her."

Curious, he considered the rest of what Inara said. "Have you been bitten, then?" he asked.
