APPLICATIONS FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTS FOR FALL 2008
To apply, read the following info, click the link to the application form, fill it out for the character you want to play, and send it off!
NEW POLICIES AS OF FALL 2008
(AKA, the really important part everyone needs to read.)
As mentioned, we are trying something new with applications this round. If a player's application falls into one of the following categories:
a) Student applications where the player does not have a current student, or where the player's only student is leaving/graduating at the end of the current semester/term
b) Teacher applications where the player has not previously had a teacher
c) Applications from new players to the game
and the application is submitted ten days before the end of the application period (August 11th), we will consider it and, if there are any issues with it, will go back to the player to give them a chance to make changes. Players in this situation will have at least five days to make any changes.
In addition, as also mentioned previously, the rules for alumni have been expanded. If you want to bring your alumni character back for a semester to be a teacher, you can do that with the standard application.
Finally, we've decided to make some changes to the character cap for fandoms:
1) The cap of ten characters per fandom now only encompasses characters who are actually on the island (teachers, townies, students) and any characters who are on an approved temporary hiatus.
2) The personal player cap of two characters per fandom now also only encompasses characters actually on the island (as listed above).
3) Due to the differences within the canon, Marvel fandom has been broken up into three separate fandoms: Marvel 616, Marvel AUs (which includes Ultimate and the plethora of AUs), and Marvel Movies/TV/Cartoons (Non-Comics)
The basics you need to know:
* You have to be at least 18 years of age to apply.
* This application session is open to EVERYONE - current players and newcomers alike!
* All players can have a maximum of five characters total and can play no more than four students and no more than two characters from the same fandom.
* We will only accept one student and one teacher per player in this application session (you are welcome to send in as many applications as you like, but only one of each will be accepted. Feel free to specify which one you want to be your primary application)
* Students are required to (when instructed) sign up for 2 classes and keep up with those classes (sign in to one post per class per week)
* Teachers are required to teach at least 1 class per week (for the entire semester - that's 15 weeks), post on time regularly, keep an eye on your students, give them something to do each week and be accessible to students when needed.
* All accepted characters go on probation for the first month. After that time, if there's anyone who's disappeared or is being a major problem, we'll talk to them about it and possibly remove them. It's hard to get to the removal stage.
* Improvization. Fandom High is a balance between planning and improvisation. Some people plan plots, but a lot of the day-to-day stuff is purely improvization where you throw a bunch of characters together and see what happens.
Most Wanted!
In addition to teachers and students, we're currently looking for someone to take over running the Fandom Town Emergency Clinic and also the School Library.
These two roles involve specific responsibilities. The Clinic boss is responsible for monitoring clinic staff and ensuring that every shift during the week is covered. This role is for a doctor/medical character. The librarian is responsible for supervising the library aides and will need to decide on new library aides to complement the current roster when Fall starts. The librarian is also ICly responsible for (keeping people out of/keeping bad things in) Special Collections and facilitates library/SC plots approved by the admins.
What's needed to apply:
* Make sure that the character you want to apply with isn't already here.
* Fill out the appropriate parts of the application form (link below).
* Be prepared to create a journal for your character that does not and will not contain entries from other games.
* Read the Fandom High handbook on fandomhigh.net. It contains all the rules/guidelines you'll need and will answer a lot of questions.
* Time commitment. This game is a LOT of fun, but things do happen quickly and it does require checking in a couple of times a week and throwing your character into threads wherever you find one you want. (You don't need to read everything.
fandom_radio summarizes everything every day).
* Language skills. Seriously, if you cannot write in complete sentences and use basic spelling, punctuation and grammar then people are going to want to throttle you. That being said, we don't expect perfection. This game is based on interaction and you're going to want people to be able to understand you or they won't want to interact with you.
What happens once you've applied:
Once your application has been received, we will send you an email to confirm that we got it. Applications will then be held until the application period is closed. We will sort through them and let you know whether your character has been accepted or not before the term starts. Please note: if we get two or more applications for the one character, we will ask every person who applied for that character to send in a back-up in case they don't get their first pick, so have a second choice on hand!
Accepted players will then be asked to create the journal for their character, respond to the acceptance email and to accept invitations to the game communities. New characters are allowed to start playing around August 29 (actual date to be determined - we'll let you know). There will be a big welcome post for you all.
Notes for Current Players:
* If you are planning on dropping a character at the end of this term, please let the admin team know ASAP via email or a comment here.
* Although the prospect of apping a new character is shiny and delightful, please take into consideration whether you will be able to keep up with all of your characters. If characters are neglected, it could hamper your chances of getting new characters in the future.
Notes for New Players:
The application form is designed to get you to show how well you know your canon, character and have an idea of how you and your character will fit in here at Fandom High. Even if we do know your canon and character, we need to know that you them as well. Know what you're getting yourself into before applying. That said, we always delight in new players coming our way, so give it your best shot and we look forward to seeing your application!
For some tips on how to apply, check out this post.
Application Form
You only need to fill out the parts that are relevant to the type of character you are applying for (ie: if you're a student applicant, don't fill in the stuff marked 'Townies Only').
If you don't get a confirmation email from us within 24 hours, please email us.
As mentioned above, here at Fandom High we have a soft character cap of 10 characters per fandom. There are currently no fandoms at full capacity, so feel free to apply for characters from whatever fandom you choose. You can check on your prospective fandom's character count by checking out the character roster on fandomhigh.net (linked above).
Applications close Friday, August 22, 2008. E-mail administration@fandomhigh.net with any questions and we'll try to respond promptly.
The next application session for students and teachers after this will be in December for a January start. Townie applications are always open.
Got a question? We're here to answer it!

I will be out of town with little to no email access Aug. 21-25. Assuming I actually get in an application and it's accepted, is there any chance acceptances will go out during that time period? If they did and I didn't answer, would you hold the slot, or would I basically forfeit?

If acceptances don't go out during that time period, then everything keeps going normally.
