Childhood Games, Class #4, Thursday period 1

The class met at the campgrounds again today, where Lily was looking maybe a little hungover. Just a little. Look, beer had rained from the sky yesterday, what was she supposed to do?

"Okay, guys, we're going easy today and playing a game called Tag. If you've played before, great, but we're going to get everyone on the same page, and if you haven't, you poor things. Someone's It. That someone chases people. The first person they tag is now It, and it's their turn to chase people. And it goes on like this, but no, really, it's fun. The rules are, you can only tag one person at a time, there are no tag-backs, and you see those two trees over there?" Lily said, pointing to two trees in the not-so-far distance with a good amount of space between them. "That's your safe zone. Since you're all in high school, I don't think you should need it, but just in case. Any questions? Then have at it."

"I'm glad to hear it. From 'arresting', I was worried that you might be frozen by horror," he joked with a faint smile.

Amber cracked up laughing at that. "Maybe if you stripped naked and stood up in the crowd."

Er.

"But it wouldn't be horror that arrested me."

Much as the thing they were sitting on was the ground.

He wasn't so much pink as the color of wine at his cheeks.

"I wouldn't want to disturb the performance."

Cute. He was blushing.

"You know I've never seen a naked guy before. Not even a dead one. They were always dressed when they came into the morgue."

Amber could be wicked in her teasing when she felt like it. But seriously, it was true.

He was actually more confused at the end than the beginning.

"I-if you would ever feel a pressing need to see one, I suppose I could, um, that is--"

Was this being polite or impolite? Damn him, he wasn't sure. After all, nakedness was pretty much a fact of life when it came to his own world. When he'd been tossed the Chuffrey livery in Lady Glinda's house, the kitchen marm hadn't cared that he was stripping down and neither had he. When he'd lived on the streets, he'd bathed in the fountains with the others late at night when no one was there to bother them, but they'd all bathed together because who cared?

But this seemed slightly different, stranger, and perhaps more personal. He hoped he wasn't being rude.

"If it's just a matter of interest, I wouldn't mind."

Both brows shot upwards. She had just been messing with him. Teasing. Because she was in that kind of mood.

But okay.

"Seriously? You'd be cool with that?"

Now he looked up and shrugged.

"It's just a body. Everyone's got one. The important part's inside it. And if you're that curious, what's it matter?"

"It shouldn't matter," she decided right then and there. A body's a body, right. Everyone has one.

"And I'm not too terribly curious but I'm not goin' to turn down an offer like that." She wasn't stupid.

He laughed. Not at her, just amused at 'an offer like that'.

"I can't be the only one who'd offer if you liked, Amber."

She thought about that.

"I don't want to test those waters and you're not thinkin' about takin' it back, are you? 'Cause you can't," dammit.

He blinked but shook his head slowly.

"No. I wouldn't. Why would I? I was just saying."

Amber shrugged. "Never know. People take back stuff all the time." She frowned. "Even when it doesn't belong to them."

Okay. She was having a Becky Leeman moment.

"When is this revealin' goin' to happen, hm?"

"Whenever you like. It's not as if I have to prepare," he said with a brief laugh.

"Just tell me."

Amber thought hard for one second.

"Tonight?"

"I don't have anything else planned," he admitted.

"You're welcome to come to my room, or I could go to yours. Whichever you prefer."

He shook his head.

"I have the room to myself."

"Then I can come over later tonight," she suggested. She hasn't been in his room in a while, might be nice.

...and omg a naked boy! Inwardly Amber was flailing.
