Basic Cryptozoology - Wednesday - First Period - 7/30
Lucky for her class, Abigail Irene Garrett was in fact in a lovely mood for the day. She had a date set for Friday, there was a play on the island which sounded very interesting, and her patchwork terrier Mike was up on her desk, insisting on getting a scritch from under her hand.
"Today, as I told you last week, I'll be asking each of you to present a few minutes on the subject of a creature, perhaps a cryptid, from your own world. I'll start things off for all of us...

"Then it's my opinion that you are wiser than your father in that respect," she said with a nod of her head.
"A fool does not rest his strength on another, but a greater fool assumes he will never have to. One can never know what you might come up against and to ignore a tool on simple principle is the worst kind of pigheadedness."
She leaned down a little.
"The most important advantage is the kind which lets you succeed or, baring that, come home at the end of the day to try again."

Perhaps her view was a bit harsh, but it'd let her survive more years than most of these children had been alive in her business. Be the best you could be, but never mistake that for the best there was.
