Thurviving Mad Thcientithtth [week three]

Igor gave everyone a toothy grin. "The motht important lethon you will ever learn ith thith: when the flaming torcheth arrive - and they alwayth arrive - you mutht already be gone."

He led the students into the Danger Shop, which looked like a huge old and creepy castle, with all the traditional Creepy Castle Accoutrements. "Every cathtle hath at leatht one thecret pathage, and uthually they have more. Your tathk today ith to find one that will get you out and thafely away."

Gavin was still having trouble keeping his lisp but he was practicing while listening.

Practicing quietly.

Agnes listened carefully.

After having seen the posters for the mind-swapping thing, she was more than a little wary of Igor.

Gavin entered the castle. For some reason, he immediately looked up to make sure nothing fell on his head. All he saw was a dark ceiling.

He continued on.

He went into the first door he came to and started pushing on walls to check for loose bricks. All he got was a handful of sludge. Nice. He left the room and walked down a long corridor that seemed to narrow as it progressed until Gavin's elbows were knocking against the wall.

He leaned back against one wall and...fell backwards when that wall gave way. It gave way to a short fall down into a pile of trash that smelled worse than old dirty socks.

Undeterred (but smelling bad), Gavin got up and examined the new room. The walls were smooth. There had to be something. He trudged around until his foot hooked on something on the floor. He pulled and felt the floor moving with him.

This was going to be gross but Gavin ducked under all the trash and pulled the door up until he could wiggle through and slide down a long, sludge covered slide which deposited him neatly outside.

Gross.

Sometimes things are hidden in plain sight.

Agnes looked for one of the visible entrances to the servants' passageways -- quite a few of the "secret passages" were just hidden doors into those halls, anyway -- and then headed Below Stairs and out the kitchen door.

After wandering about quite a bit, twisting and pulling on various sconces and knickknacks, Andrew found himself in a library. Naturally, he sat about pulling on every single book until he found the one that would trigger the opening of a secret passage.

He might be at this for a while.

Rodney figured he was pretty good at the whole hiding thing. He didn't have any trouble finding hidden doorways leading to secret rooms, but he figured is he could spot them just walking into a room, they probably wouldn't be that safe. Plus, if the angry villagers or whoever decided to burn the place down, getting stuck in a room with only one exit and no windows wouldn't be the best plan.

Finally, he found a well-hidden entrance to a secret passage behind a tapestry and camouflaged within the stonework. The other end of the passage opened out into a greenhouse and from there he could escape to the outside.

It was all very Clue.

If only the castle had been wired for electricity, Jenny would have been out in a trice. As it was, after mucking about for a bit with sconces and tapestries and the like and getting nowhere, she decided bollocks on 'secret' and went for the traditional route of one needing to leave in a hurry (frequently without trousers). She headed for the family's quarters, then down the conveniently-placed trellis outside the daughter's window and out the garden gate.

Gavin's here.

And glad he's not really sludge covered.
