Escape Artistry: Week 3, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/24)

The Danger Shop was set up like the Salle. The main difference was the giant Satedan in the center of the room, going through a complicated practice routine with a bokutō blade. When they arrived, he stopped and approached the group with a feral smile, spinning the wooden sword in his hand as he spoke.

"Today we're sword fighting. If it's your first fight, there's a handout for you. First thing to know about sword fighting: keep your eyes straight ahead. Focus on the enemy. Never ever look away from your enemy. It shows weakness. Are you weak?" He stared down a couple students in particular as he paced the floor in front of them all. "Second thing: You’ve gotta anticipate the enemy's next move. Always be ready. I'll give you a minute to look at the papers." Ronon stepped away, preparing to instruct them on how this was going to go down.

"Time out," Ronon said, lowering his bokutō and moving to stand next to Friday. "Hold your sword with both hands, like this." He showed him what he meant. "Keep the blade up."

Friday looked at the way Ronon was holding his sword and tried to copy both the hand and shoulder positions. Seeing as though he was not Mr Muscles, the shoulder bit didn't work out so great. Friday took a deep breath and nodded. He had very little idea of what he was doing.

Ronon looked him over. It wasn't as bad as teaching McKay to fight, he could give the kid that. He nodded and retook his position across from Friday.

"Now, keep your eyes on me and anticipate my moves."

Friday repositioned his feet and stood ready. He even managed to point the 'blade' of the practice sword up. "If you could avoid giving me a bloody lip, sir, I'd appreciate it." He hated bloody lips. They took forever to heal and were annoying as hell.

"That's up to you to avoid," Ronon pointed out, swiping his bokutō easily toward Friday's ready sword.

The swords clacked and Friday was thrown slightly off balance by the connection. He recovered and returned with a sideways slash at Ronon.

Blocking the slash easily, Ronon attempted to lift his blade against Friday's in order to propel him backwards.
