Roving the Galaxy [period 04 - week 02]

"Good afternoon. The Doctor isn't able to be here today." There was a definite note of disapproval in her voice. "So I've stepped in to take your class. It appears as if you were going to be speaking with friendly aliens this week, and we'll continue with that. He didn't specify which aliens, so I've chosen ones that you will hopefully enjoy."

Harriet leaned against a convenient table. "The question of whether an alien is a friendly one or not can be difficult. Often those who seem to have the best interests of the planet at heart turn out, in fact, to value nothing but their own arrogance." She shook her head. "You don't have to worry about the ones you're going to meet today, though your conversations will be on their terms."

She waved them through a door and into a lush green forest. "Off you go, enjoy yourselves. I'll be here if you need me."

As he wandered, he might eventually see a small alien looking up at him with huge golden eyes.

"Well are you a cute little thing," Jamie said kneeling down. "You're not going to bit my face off are you?"

"Yeek," he said in the same tone, carefully getting closer.

"Well my face doesn't look that bad," Jamie joked. "Or does it?"

"Yeek," he said again, reaching out tentatively to poke at him.

Jamie let the creature poke him and attempted to do the same back. "So I'm that ugly, huh?" Jamie said in good humor. "That's okay. You're a pretty cute little thing. You can take care of the cute quota thing."

He preened a little, and gave Jamie's hand a pat, yeeking in an encouraging tone. He wasn't that bad looking, for someone who didn't look like his friends.

"Well thanks! I think." Jamie said with an amused look. "Can I call you something other than 'Yeek'?"

"Yeek," he said somewhat sadly, shaking his head. He didn't think Jamie would be able to pronounce it.

"No? Well, Yeek isn't as horrible as some names I guess," Jamie said with a sympathetic nod. "Unless you want me to come up with a name? How do you feel about 'Guido'?"

His yeek tried to make it clear that he didn't like Guido much, but he looked interested to hear any other ideas Jamie might have.

"How about Logan? Alex? Bunny Foo Foo?"

Those were all very strange sounding names, he thought, and he poked at Jamie to try to get him to come up with something else.

"Gadget? Gizmo? Boo?"

He bounced a little at Gizmo, yeeking in an approving tone. That wasn't such a bad name at all.

Huh.

"Just to be sure, there aren't any rules about you eating food after midnight, right?"

He shook his head, and pointed to some of the berries growing in the forest. He could eat whenever he wanted, thank you very much.

"Oh. Cool. You want some berries now? I can pick some from the higher branches if you want," Jamie offered.

His wide eyes grew even wider and he ran towards one of the tallest bushes, pointing enthusiastically.

"Sure thing, pal," Jamie said reaching up and picking the berries and handing them done to the alien. "Just don't eat too fast and then go swimming without waiting a full hour. Okay?"
