Childhood Games, Class #2, Thursday period 1

The class met out by the main campfire today, where Lily looked much happier being in the actual outdoors. "Hi, guys. You all came back!" she said, quickly doing a headcount to make sure that was true. "Today we're getting a little more active than last week and playing a game called Red Light, Green Light. Um, okay, in case you've never been in a car, you can only drive at streetlights when the light turns green, and you have to stop when it turns red. Same thing here, only minus the cars. That's another class.

"The first person will stand here," she said, standing next to the unlit campfire and turning her back, "so you can't see what everyone's doing. Everyone else stands where you guys are now, and when I say 'green light', you all run towards me. When I say 'red light' you all have to stop where you are or you're out and have to sit over there." She pointed to the spot she'd designated Time Out. Shush, old habits died hard. "The first person to reach the campfire wins, and you go on to the next round. Pretty easy, right? Any questions?

"Okay," she said, once any had been answered. "Who wants to go first?"

"Aaaaaand...." Turtle paused dramatically before turning away from her fellow campers. "GREEN LIGHT!"

Lion-o got the concept that green means go. He hadn't yet figured out that it was a race, so he slowly made his way towards the campfire.

Turtle counted slowly until about...oh, five before declaring, "Red light!" and triumphantly turning around.

Lion-o froze in place, one foot lifted off the ground as he was stepping forward when he stopped.

Oooh! She'd caught someone mid-step! Turtle eyed Lion-o for a moment, trying not to smirk, waiting to see how his balance was before deciding when to go green again.

Lion-o balanced carefully on one foot, but he was able to remain still as he waited. That cat-like agility had to come in handy for something.

Turtle's nose wrinkled. Figured she'd forget about something like cat-like agility. She eyed Lion-o just a little bit more, trying to counteract his natural graces with a bit of intimidation before calling out "Red light!" and turning around again.

Now this was getting interesting. Lion-o smirked a little bit at the intimidation tactics, moving swiftly and quietly like any good cat as soon as the green light was called.

Oh good, athletic games. Because Francine was so good at walking and chewing gum those.

Still, she darted a quick look at Turtle, then started running.

"....Red light!" Turtle shouted suddenly after a second or two, whipping around, eager to catch anyone who didn't stop moving forward.

She needn't have bothered, when it came to Francine. The ground was eagerer. And closer.

Wobblefumblethud.

"Oof."

Which left Turtle blinking a little and unable to :not comment.

"Wow. That was...um...quick."

Pause.

"You okay?"

Francine stood up and dusted herself off, answering with an air of almost cheerful resignation, "I'm used to it."

Worf snarled and ran towards Turtle with a scary look on his face.

Turtle couldn't shake her own habit of playing the game with her back turned from the players while she was on green light, so she was thankfully oblivious to any snarls. For the moment. Because she still had to turn around to catch them as she proclaimed, "Red light!"

Worf skidded to a stop.

A low growl may be emanating from him.

Someone should probably remind him this is just a game.

Turtle's eyes went a little wide.

She was feeling like she would not want to go in on a bid on a stock with the guy with the head ridges.

There was a long pause as she tried to wrangle up the courage enough to turn her back on that face. It wasn't easy.

"...um, green light."

Worf raced toward turtle, his snarl now bordering on a roar.

There was quite a bit of a flail as Turtle turned around to announce "Red light, red light!"

This had suddenly become the most nerve-wracking game of Red light, Green Light she'd ever played, holy crap.

Re: Red Light, Green Light

[identity profile] sonofmogh.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Worf stopped and was now shifting on his feet impatiently.

He HAD to win.

At the word 'green light' Sora sprinted towards Turtle.

And then, at the inevitable "RED LIGHT!" Turtle whipped around to catch someone still moving.

Sora froze.

Didn't even blink.

Red Light Green light was serious business yo.

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
Clearly. Turtle eyed Sora a little, as if just daring him to take a step, and then turned around again with a call of "Green light!"

Sora started to sprint again towards her with a bright grin on his face.

He might have forgotten that the point was to tag her though and wasn't moving towards Turtle.
