Informed Investments -- Wednesday; Third Period -- 07/16

Today, the class would find no muffins available, but that did not mean that they would discover themselves lacking in any sort of treats that would probably spoil their lunches. The offering today was cookies, large and made just the night before, with plenty to spare considering the small numbers of the class. There were peanut butter ones for those with chocolate allergies, chocolate chip for those with peanut allergies, and then oatmeal raisin because those were healthier, right?

Charlotte herself was looking very professional in her glasses and one of her nicer business ensemble, humming a little under her breath despite her best attempts to avoid those nasty little rats (who probably carried with them all sorts of diseases, not to mention those awful earworms), as she waited for the class to come in.

"Good morning!" she greeted them brightly once they were all settled. "Help yourself to some cookies," and there was also milk, because, honestly, who has cookies without milk? "And I apologize that today's class might be a little boring, but it's extremely important. Today we're going to talk about budgeting, which is one of the most important things to consider when shopping, especially for anything with a significant price tag. I should also warn you that, while my degree is in art history, my minor was finance, so I know a thing or two. Not everyone has that kind of education to back up their spending habits, though, and I've seen far too many people take a quick dive into debt or bad credit thanks to a single purchase."

Then came out the teacherly pointer stick, which Charlotte might have had a bit too much glee over getting to use as she pointed to various charts and graphs showing the statistics regarding debt or average spending figures or the average American income compared to the average American purchasing. Then, she covered a brief but poignant lesson on advice for making a budget.

"So, today," she said, smartly pushing the length of the pointer down, "that's what we'll be doing today. I swear, it's not as boring or awful as it sounds! Besides, even if it is, it's incredibly important, one of those things that must be done, and, believe me, it's a lot less of a pain in your rear than bankruptcy or debt, that's for sure!"

"Oh yeah, I definitely don't need more than one apron unless I set the other one on fire," Ned said. "Which I, um, hope I don't do."

"Just once," he was quick to assure her. "And it was a tiny fire."

"Ooh." He'd never thought of that. One apron, general use but that was better. "Thank you. I'll do that. I don't...set things on fire anymore. Just to let you know."

"Pies are no good on fire," he agreed. "Well, not much is good on fire unless, what you just said, yeah. Thanks for the suggestion. I think I can afford two aprons."

He happily jotted down extra apron on his list.
