QUANTUM PHYSICS DEPARTMENT: COURSE INFORMATION

[Tacked to the main school message board is the following, printed on slightly psychic paper.]

QPHY 123 Monday and Wednesday (chronofluid)
'I'm My Own Grandfather?!': Essential Quantum Theory for Beginners
This course will be a basic overview of what one needs to know in order to understand the basics of time travel. Of particular note will be sections on preventing harm to the spacetime continuum, the structure of the universe, and the limitations of temporal dynamics. Twenty student cap.

QPHY 305 Thursday (chronofluid)
'What's a Temporal Anomaly, Anyway?': Secondary Quantum Physics Seminar
This course goes beyond QPHY 123, focusing on more complex problems faced by the time traveller. Includes sections on stabilising wormholes and changing historical events without rupturing a society. An overriding theme will be the mental and emotional results of leaving and returning to one's 'home' era. Course is limited to ten students who have had at least some time travel experience.

If there is interest, there will be an open weekly single credit course (one short final paper) on the emotional and mental effects of time travel in application. Please leave me a note if you would be interested.

Instructor: The Doctor. (You should address me as Doctor. Not Doc or anything else.)

Subject: Quantum Physics and Time Travel

Office Hours: Tuesday and Friday during school hours.

Assessments: One group project, class participation/homework, and a final paper.

Field Trips: One observation trip for the 100 level class, possibility of minor field work for the 300 level.

Make-Ups/Extra Credit: Missing class is acceptable with a valid prior excuse, either by speaking to me in person or by written note, unless you are suddenly (in that case, please see Dr House or one of his assistants at the clinic for a note to give to me later). In all honesty, if you skive off, I won't hound you about it...but you won't get decent marks either. Extra credit is negotiable within reason.

Cheating: I'm not telepathic, but I will know. You won't pass, and you'll lose my respect.

Learning Disabilities or Chronic Illnesses: Please notify me in due manner.

Final Note: My classes are based on mutual respect and trust, which can be lost on either of our parts. I expect my students to behave in a civilised manner (Earth standard for the 21st century is acceptable). This includes doing your own work, being at least civil to classmates while in the classroom even if you hate them, and allowing me to do the teaching. Repeated violations will result in detention or if you're absolutely a vile bastard being sent to see Principal Connor. If you would like to discuss any of this, please see me.

Registration is first come, first serve. Please sign up below.

((OOC: This isn't going to be TOO hardcore, fear not.))

Time travel? That sounds interesting. I'd like to enroll in Essential Quantum Theory for Beginners if it's no bother.

[OOC: I'm playing Rose as though she hasn't yet time traveled. Of course, that will probably change in the future. ;)]

Essential Quantum Theory for Beginners, please.

*Paige reads the paper, can give you the skills to go back in time and not sleep with [livejournal.com profile] _ripper_giles_*

*She blinks and looks again, this time reading what it actually says* Hmmm well [livejournal.com profile] pure_blooddraco seems to have forgiven me, looks a bit too confusing.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Erm what's the deal with that paper sir?

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that explains it then, yes I guess it is. *Paige has a thought about homework* I couldn't get hold of some of that from anywhere could I?

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige looks annoyed by this news* I'll wait til the exchange is better then I guess. Thanks

[identity profile] trionexile.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to enrol for the secondary course, please. *Turlough fumbles somewhat suspiciously with a large-ish white crystal*

[identity profile] missromana.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Do be careful with that crystal. The Doctor is right, that sort of thing oughtn't to be trifled with.

[identity profile] cyloninmyhead.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
While I am hardly a beginner, I do not have the required time travel experience for the secondary seminar, so I suspect I must take Essential Quantum Theory for Beginners.

[identity profile] suzotchka.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to apply for the secondary seminar. If you're looking for prerequisites, I have helped alter the course of history by stealing the completed Babylon 4 a number of years before my present time and helping to restructure Minbari society a thousand years before that, in preparation for a conflict that happened about a year after stealing B4. Dealing with ancient races dating from the dawn of time is also on my resume. Do you require anything further?

[identity profile] sparkplugfelix.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds fascinating. Please sign me up for the first course, sir?

[identity profile] missromana.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose I ought to attend the secondary seminar, Doctor - although you know as well as I do that you're always getting the time wrong.

[identity profile] missromana.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm delighted to hear it.

[identity profile] littleluck.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 07:34 pm (UTC)(link)
QPHY 123 sounds interesting. I'd like to enroll, if I can.

[identity profile] cellar-doordd.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
If there's room, I want to sign up for QPHY 305.

By any chance, have you read the work of Roberta Sparrow?

[identity profile] cellar-doordd.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
She wrote The Philosophy of Time-Travel, and is one of the main reasons I'm so interested in this. She also used to live a few blocks away from me.

[identity profile] julian-lawless.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I believe I can fit the first seminar into my schedule. It's certainly a subject I never thought to study, but if it's available and I'm not too late to sign up--

OOC: Sark may know nothing of the Doctor, but his player will be sitting over here in a corner fangirling. *grin*

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm feeling like a bit of a slacker with my course load, so, I guess sign me up for QPHY 123.

Besides, if I have trouble I'll just get Sparky to explain everything

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Overachiever!

[identity profile] lady-jessica-bg.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
123 please.

It might come in handy with space travel and the whole Bene Gesserit cause.

(ooc: Ah, I'm such a math geek. And a fantasy/sci-fi geek. And an anything-that-has-to-do-with-the-Knights-Templar geek.)

[identity profile] last-worde.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
(OOC: *sobs* I love you!

*cannot take, but still adores*)

[identity profile] soniabelmont.livejournal.com 2005-09-12 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my, zis class is right up my alley. Qvantum Theory for Beginners, please?

(Also, I vould definitely be interested in the extra course, as I've had something of an experience with the mental effects of time-travel. Waking up in a dark room five-hundred years after one's death tends to do that to a person.

[identity profile] radekzelenka.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
I would like to sign up for Secondary Quantum Physics Seminar, prosím.

[identity profile] teenaged-twin.livejournal.com 2005-10-31 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
(OOC: Is the Doctor taking any last-second enrollments, and if so, can I toss Murphy in QPHY 123?)

[identity profile] teenaged-twin.livejournal.com 2005-10-31 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
(*shrugs* Can't blame a mun fer trying. Thanks anyways.)
