Escape Artistry: Week 1, Period 3 (Thurs. 07/10)

When students assembled in the Danger Shop, they'd find a long table with screw drivers, hammers, awls, and crowbars near a long wall lined with a variety of doors. Some were obviously thin, wooden, interior doors with privacy doorknobs and some were much thicker, metal, exterior doors with deadbolts and sturdier doorknobs. All were locked and once students came into the Danger Shop they'd discover the entrance had disappeared.

Standing in front of the doors with his arms crossed was a huge man with wild dreadlocks, facial hair, and intricate tattoos on his forearm and neck. He wore a leather tank-style vest, worn leather pants, heavy boots, and a wicked smile.

"This is Escape Artistry," Ronon grunted the words at those assembled on-time. "Stupid name for a class, but I didn't pick it. They said day one is about keeping it easy and getting to know you. Meet the doors." Ronon gestured his thumb toward the wall of doors. "You break one down, we'll do introductions on the other side."

Ronon approached a sturdy, steel, dead-bolted door and delivered a well-placed kick to the point where the lock was mounted, tearing the deadbolt out of the metal door frame and causing the door to cave in on itself and smash loudly to the floor. Ronon snorted his disappointment with the door's structure before glancing back at the students. "If you need 'em, there's tools 'n stuff on the table. I don't care how you do it, just get through. I'll be waiting on the other side."

After he stepped through the rubble into the room on the other side, the door he'd destroyed repaired itself through the magic of the Danger Shop. Students would have to work either together or alone to beak down a door and escape the sealed room.

Helen turned her right arm into the Living Blade, sliced through one of the doors and stepped into the next room.

Warren walked up to the door and eyed it critically for a moment. He could have chosen a wooden door, lit his hands on fire, and just burned it down.

But that would have been too easy. He'd chosen one of the heavy, metal doors instead, and eyed the hinges thoughtfully before he headed back to grab a screwdriver.

Gwen frowned as she picked up a crowbar and set to work on the hinges of a door. This would have been much easier with the tech back at Torchwood.

Oooooooooh. YES! This class was awesome and she really, really hoped it wasn't cheating for her to use some of the goodies she had in her leg-pouch.

If it was, she'd totally, totally just break another door down. Doors were fun anyway.

For now, she was gonna take a bomb core and a lightning gem and whip herself up a Potato Masher. Ooooh, it'd be neat to see how much of the door was left!

Friday focused his attention on removing the door knob containing the lock. He was glad to not have one of the big dead-locked doors, because he managed to get the knob off and disable the lock that way.

Michael went for one of the heavy metal doors, for a challenge, and set to work on the lock.

It didn't last very long.

Gwynn used some of the tools to pry the hinges off of a wooden door.

Johnny chose a metal door and flamed up, hot, melting a hole big enough for him to get through.

Peter was glad for the chance to practice his powers in a classroom setting. He went up to a locked door and put his hand on it. He concentrated, calling up the power he'd borrowed from Door, and asked the locks to open for him.

He was then able to step through to the other side.

Mostly because she wanted to see if she could do it, Teyla went up to one of the wooden doors, and kicked hard at the lock until it broke off and she could get through.

Of course Sokka wouldn't have come to a class called "Escape Artistry" without his lockpicks. Not that he was much good with them, but still.

With a smirk, he picked one of the heavier doors and set at it. The lock on the doorknob clicked open eventually, but the deadbolt steadfastly refused to open. Eventually, he let out a yell of frustration and threw himself against the door, trying to bust it open. That... didn't work so well.

So, bruised and angry, he grabbed a hammer, headed over to one of the flimsier doors, and very quickly reduced it to splinters. "Take THAT, you stupid door!!!"

It would have been easier to just find a weak point in the door and try to knock it down or something, but what was the fun in that? Jaina just took her multitool from her pocket and got to work on taking the door off. ...She might have to cheat when she got to the top.

Katara tilted her head at the door for an instant then reached for a thread of water. She fed it into the lock, making sure all the parts were saturated before she froze it, breaking the lock.

Picking what was obviously the flimsiest door, Andrew walked up to it and kicked it as hard as he could. "Ow!"

He was pretty sure he sprained something.

Hobbling back over to the table, he grabbed a screwdriver to take off the hinges.

Dick pulled a lockpick out from his sleeve and got to work on the lock of one of the simpler doors. There was no point in showing off.

Well, not right now, after everyone else had shown off.

Alec took a page from the teacher's book and kicked the dead bolt opened with a well placed kick. Hey, if it worked, it worked.
